A Good Professor

Mathematics is somewhat not easy, and usually, some women do not like Math.

However, it was not completely the same for me. I went to high school in my country

Haiti and graduated and came in the US to go to college. While I was in high school I

had a Math professor name Roberson Zephirin at College de Jeunes Filles in 2015. A

good professor always has a good influence on students’ performance, professor

Zephirin was my favorite professor because he did his best to help me like and

understand Math. He always gave good advice when I need it the must, never put his

students down and always make you feel comfortable during the class hours.

In 2015 I had to do some Math classes that was not easy at all. As the class

became in the second week you can already feel the hardest of the Math. I was afraid of

Math before and did not like it. But, when I met with professor Zephirin everything

changed. He made math became very easy for me.

Since professor Zephirin was teaching, he became more understandable and did

whatever he knew to make us understand Math. I remembered a day I was traveling

with some hard Math homework that I could not understand. I spoke to him about that.

He listened to me and allowed me to came during his office hours to explain to me how

to do the homework. He did the same for every student that asked him for help.

Even if after he explained to us we did mistakes, he never said anything to make

you feel bad. He always said, “I know you did your best to do the homework right and I

know next time you will do great”. He always gives us good advice and his class is

never bored. Professor Zephirin always made something to make you understand. Also,

I remembered a day he sent me on the board as a teacher to explain the homework to

the class. I definitely do not have to say how hard and stressful it was for me to be the

teacher for only five minutes. But as I was doing it I got more comfortable to teach the

students and I enjoyed it, and understand much more than when I did the homework.

Therefore, as I graduated from high school and went to Queensborough

Community College, I have to take some Math classes. I passed the placement Math

test. Then, I took the Algebra, the trigonometry, and Calculus. I passed all of them. Not

because they were not hard although, as professor Zephirin was a good professor, that

makes me be able to not afraid, and to understand my Math classes. I really like Math.

A professor’s competence can affect a student academically positively or negatively, not

for only one class but, for the rest of the student life. That's why as a good professor

Zephirin makes me like Math for the life of my life. As a result, I choose Accounting as a

major but, I also like Finance.
