Title of the Unit Japan education culture

Title of the Lesson Japan

Grade Level 9th grade

Estimated Time 50 minutes.

Summary of the Lesson The teacher will start by introducing the country
and their general culture. The teacher will discuss
common themes in everyday life before focusing
on the education aspect of the country. The
teacher will then examine education in japan.
The teacher will show the similarities and
differences between Japanese education and
American education.

Materials Required Computer, projector, smart board, Notebook,


Writing utensil, power point.

Objectives After learning this lesson 80% of students in the
9th grade World history class will be able to

 Identify a common food in Japan


 Explain how American and Japanese
schools differ.
 Summarize some of the negatives of
Japanese education.
With 80% accuracy

Vocabulary  Juku – Cram night school


 Souji – Period of cleaning the schools all
the students partake in daily

Procedure Before: The teacher will introduce the lesson by


starting and addressing the basics of the country
of Japan. This includes population, geographical
size, capital etc. Then the class will move on into
looking at more of the culture aspect such as food
and drinks and what the people value.

During: Then the class will learn about how the


Japanese educational system works. They will see
that it is very different than the US school system
in which they grew up in. The school systems
may seem similar from a far but the closer the
students look they will start to notice a very strict
educational system in japan.

After: Students will be be asked if they have any


questions and will be asked to share their
thoughts on the Japanese school system

Assessment Students will not be assessed in this culture


presentation

Accommodations/Modifications I will follow whatever accommodations or


modifications that are required for each student
according to their 504 or IEP.
