Report On Leadership Camp

Recently, I attended a leadership camp organised by the District Education Department. The camp
was held on the 21st of May 2019 at the Rakan Muda Complex in Kamunting. Forty students from ten schools
in the district of LMS participated in the camp. The camp was launched by the District Education Officer. The
main objective of the camp was to groom future leaders. Another objective is to teach students the
importance of building a harmonious nation.
Various activities which benefited the participants were carried out during the camp. The first activity
was jungle trekking. This activity helped the participants to understand the value of teamwork. During the activity,
the participants were grouped into different teams. Equipped with a compass, a box of matches, mineral water
and some light snacks, each team was to make their way from one end of the island to the other in the shortest
time possible. We learned survival skills and went on insect hunt.
After that, we took part in a thrilling and exciting activity called flying fox. The objective of the flying
fox activity was to develop confidence amongst the participants. During the activity, participants were instructed to
travel down a steep slope. Several participants found this activity especially daunting and had to be persuaded to
take part.
Then, we took part in a drama session. During a drama session, participants were required to write
and stage an impromptu play. This activity greatly enhanced the participants’ communication and language skills.
Most of the participants agreed that this was their favourite activity.
Lastly, a series of eye-opening lectures and workshops were conducted during the camp. The
topics which were covered during the lectures and workshops included general knowledge, mathematics,
science, geography, world history, literature and popular culture. The lectures and workshops aimed at enhancing
the participants’ knowledge of the world around them.
The camp ended late in the evening. It was truly an inspiring experience for the participants. We really
enjoyed ourselves. We learned many useful things at the camp. The camp gave us the opportunity to develop
our self-confidence. The camp also taught us the importance of teamwork. It is hoped that similar camps
would be organised in future.
