SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS VI

I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARDS

1. The learner demonstrates understanding of volume of solid figures and

meter reading.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
1. The learner is able to apply knowledge of volume of solid figures and
meter reading in mathematical problems and real-life situations.

C. LEARNING COMPENTENCIES/OBJECTIVES

1. Interprets electric meter readings

2. Solves problems involving electric consumption.
3. Apply electric readings in daily life.

II. CONTENT: ELECTRIC READING

A. Learning Resources
1. Teacher’s Guide page
2. Learner’s Materials page
B. Other learning resources
Flash cards, chart, Electric Meter Model, pen, manila papers, worksheets
Integration: English, Science, and ESP
III. PROCEDURE

A. Review
 Mental Computation: Give me a number that is
a) one more than 9
b) one more than 99
c) one more than 999
What happens to 9 when you add 1?
Review on place value and the relationship of each digit to another digit in
a given number.

B. Motivation
 Ask the pupils the electrical appliances they have at home. Elicit from
them which of these consume the most electricity. Ask the pupils how
much they pay for their monthly electric bill. Get some reactions.
How would you help lessen your electric consumption? Why? Let
pupils form a circle. Let them move clockwise then counterclockwise.
Do the activity a few times.

C. Presentation/Modeling
Do the activity a few times Present the problem posted in Engage part
and give enough time to the pupils to understand the problems. Mr.
Dela Cruz is computing his monthly electrical consumption. Based on
his electric bill, last month he was able to consume 00125 kWh. When
he checked his digital electric meter, the reading is 00199 kWh. How
many kilowatt-hours did Mr. Dela Cruz consume this month?
Observe the meter readings below (TG p.302)

For us to get the amount of electricity that Mr. Dela Cruz

consumed, subtract the previous electric meter reading from
the present electric meter reading.
00199-00125=74 kWh
So, Mr. Dela Cruz consumed 74 kWh of electricity for this
month.
Explain the steps in reading electric
meter. (Mathletes txbk p. 303)

D. Guided Practice
Group Activity:
 Group the pupils into 3 groups. Each group will read and interpret the
electric meter. They are going to right their answers on a manila paper
given by the teacher and a pen. 5 minutes is the maximum time in
each group. The first group to finish with the correct answer will be
the winner.

Read and interpret the dials on the electric meter below.

Answer:

E. Generalization
 How do the dials of the electric meter move? How do you read the
dials of a meter?
To read correctly:
Read the dials from left to right. If the pointer is between the two
numbers, always take the lower number. If the pointer is directly over a
number, write down that one. If the pointer falls between 9 and 0, write
down 9 and reduce the reading you've already taken for the dial on its left
by one.

F. Independent Practice

 Draw the dials to show:

a. 2246 Kwh
b. 5432 Kwh
c. 1231 Kwh

IV. EVALUATION

2.What is the electric consumption?

3. Draw the dials to show:
a. 2356 Kwh c. 5623 Kwh
b. 3562 Kwh d. 6325 Kwh

V. ASSIGNMENT
1. Read your electric meter.
2. Bring an old electric bill.
