D. Significance of the study

The main goal of the study is to determine the factors affecting the English proficiency of

the senior high school students to their academic performance. This study will find out on how

improve is the learning of the senior high students on their English Profiency.

This study is relevant to the following:

Schools Division

This study will give the division personnel and administrators the idea on

the reasons behind the low English Language Proficiency of the students in the

school in which they can modify the common activities rendered in the office to

be disseminated to the different schools of the division.

School Administrators

This study will give the school administrators (including principals school

heads, and teachers-in charge) the idea that there are a lot of things to be modified

in the conduct of the language assessment.

Teachers

This study will help the teachers in preparing varied activities that would

help the students not to fail in learning language aside from the conduct of the

different programs related to language. Teachers will be aware on the

demotivating factors affecting the language proficiency of the students and what

are the strategies they will use for the students to be motivated and interested in

their lessons.

Parents

The outcome of the study will give the parents an insight on how to help

their children in learning language. They would also realize that there are so

many things they can do to get their children ready for school.

Community

They will inform that they have also a role in helping their neighbours in

learning English language. They could help each member of the community to

achieve a common goal.

Future Researcher

This study will help them in their further study; it would also be their

guide and reference.

E. Scope and Delimitation

The scope of the study includes a hundred of the senior high students of St. Paul

University Dumaguete. The researchers will take 100 students from the senior highschool in St.

Paul University Dumaguete. The respondents will be given questionnaires for them to answer.

However, motivation is not subject to English language only; it could also be the driving

force for learners in any field of study anywhere in the world. However, the focus of this paper is

twofold: Firstly, to highlight the impact of motivation on English language learners; and

secondly, to measure the extent of such an impact on those studying in St. Paul University

Dumaguete.

Definition of Terms

To make this study more understandable certain terms are being defined.

Demotivation - the condition of being without motivation

English Language Proficiency - the ability of Students to use the English language to make and

communicate meaning in spoken and written contexts while completing their program of study.

Factors - The term is described as a constituent or element that brings about certain effects

or results, or indicates a specific multiple, number, or quantity.

St. Paul University Senior High Students - refer the high school students of the old catholic

school in the area of Bantayan.
