1.

Quantity I : Number of hours in which A, B and C can complete the work if A, B and C alone
can finish it in 25, 20 and 15 hours respectively.
Quantity II : Number of hours in which B can finish the work if A working alone finishes it in
20 hours while working together they finish it in 5 hours.

A) quantity I > quantity II

B) quantity I ≥ quantity II

C) quantity I ≤ quantity II

D) quantity I < quantity II

E) quantity I = quantity II

Ans :- D

Solution :

Quantity I : Number of hours in which A, B and C can complete the work if A, B and C alone can finish it
in 25, 20 and 15 hours respectively.

In 1 day,

A finishes 1/25th of the work.

B finishes 1/20th of the work.

C finishes 1/15th of the work.

In 1 day, they finish part of work = 1/25 + 1/20 + 1/15 = 47/300

Thus, they finish the work in 300/47 days.

Quantity II : Number of hours in which B can finish the work if A working alone finishes it in 20 hours
while working together they finish it in 5 hours.

Let the number of hours in which B can finish the work be ‘a’.

In 1 day,

A finishes 1/20th of the work

B finishes 1/a part of the work

In 1 day, they finish part of work = 1/5

Thus, 1/20 + 1/a = 1/5

⇒ 1/a = 3/20

⇒ a = 20/3 days

Thus, quantity II > quantity I

2. Quantity I : Volume of a sphere of radius r.
Quantity II : Volume of a right circular cone with base radius √3r and slant height 2r

A) quantity I > quantity II

B) quantity I ≥ quantity II

C) quantity I ≤ quantity II

D) quantity I < quantity II

E) quantity I = quantity II

Ans :- A

Solution :

Quantity I : Volume of a sphere of radius r.

4
Volume of a sphere = 3 𝜋𝑟 3

Quantity II : Volume of a cone with base radius √3r and slant height 2r

By Pythagoras theorem,

Vertical height2 = slant height2 - radius2

⇒ h = √(4r2 – 3r2) = r
1
Volume of a cone = 3 𝜋𝑟 2 ℎ
1
⇒ Volume of a cone = 3 𝜋 × 3𝑟 × 𝑟 = 𝜋𝑟 2

Thus, quantity I > quantity II

3. Two train going in the opposite direction cross each other in 12 sec.

Quantity I : Length of train 1 if it crosses the pole in 9 sec

Quantity II : Length of train 2 if it crosses the pole in 24 sec

A) quantity I > quantity II

B) quantity I ≥ quantity II

C) quantity I ≤ quantity II

D) quantity I < quantity II

E) quantity I = quantity II

Ans :- A

Solution :
Speed = distance/time

Let the speed and length of 1st train be ‘s1’ and ‘l1’ respectively.

Let the speed and length of 2nd train be ‘s2’ and ‘l2’ respectively.

Given, train going in the opposite direction cross each other in 12 sec.

Relative speed between the trains going in opposite direction = s1 + s2

Total distance travelled = l1 + l2

∴ s1 + s2 = (l1 + l2)/12 -------- (1)

Quantity I : Length of train 1 if it crosses the pole in 9 sec

⇒ s1 = l1/9

Quantity II : Length of train 2 if it crosses the pole in 24 sec

⇒ s2 = l2/24

Substituting value of s1 and s2 in eq1

𝑙1 𝑙2 𝑙1 𝑙2
⇒ 9
+ 24 = 12 + 12

⇒ l1/36 = l2/24

⇒ l1 = 1.5l2

Thus, l1 > l2

4. Quantity I : 24x2y + 25xy2

Quantity II : 32y2x + 31x2y

Such that x ≥ 0, y ≤ 0 and |x| ≤ |y|

A) quantity I > quantity II

B) quantity I ≥ quantity II

C) quantity I ≤ quantity II

D) quantity I < quantity II

E) quantity I = quantity II

Ans :- C

Solution :

Given,

Quantity I : 24x2y + 25xy2

Quantity II : 32y2x + 33xy2

Quantity I – quantity II

= 24x2y + 25xy2 – (32y2x + 31x2y)

= -(7xy2 + 7x2y)

= - 7xy(y + x)

Given, x ≥ 0, y ≤ 0 and |x| ≤ |y|

∴ -7xy ≥ 0 as x ≥ 0 and y ≤ 0

|x| ≤ |y| implies that the absolute value of x is less than y.

∴ x + y will be ≤ 0.

Thus, -7xy(y + x) ≤ 0

∴ Quantity I – quantity II ≤ 0

⇒ quantity I ≤ quantity II

5. Quantity I : Number of ways in which ORANGES can be arranged such that vowels always
come together
Quantity 2 : Total number of numbers formed from 1, 3, 5, 7 with no repetition

A) quantity I > quantity II

B) quantity I ≥ quantity II

C) quantity I ≤ quantity II

D) quantity I < quantity II

E) quantity I = quantity II

Ans :- A

Solution :

Quantity I : Number of ways in which ORANGES can be arranged such that vowels always come together

For this, we will consider the vowels OAE as a single unit.

Thus, OAERNGS can be arranged in 5! Ways considering the vowels as one unit.

Vowels can be arranged in 3! Ways among themselves.

∴ Number of ways in which ORANGE can be arranged such that vowels always come together

= 5! × 3! = 360

Quantity II : Total number of numbers formed from 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 with no repetition

Number of,

Single digit numbers = 5

Two digit numbers = 5C1 × 4C1 = 20

Three digit numbers = 5C1 × 4C1 × 3C1 = 60

Four digit numbers = 5C1 × 4C1 × 3C1 × 2C1 = 120

Five digit numbers = 5C1 × 4C1 × 3C1 × 2C1 × 1C1 = 120

Total number of numbers formed = 5 + 20 + 60 + 120 + 120 = 325

Thus, quantity I > quantity II
