Online Learning vs. Face-to-Face Learning
Everyone has done face-to-face learning, but have you ever wanted to try online learning?

The topic of the essay is online learning vs. face-to-face learning. Online learning is important

because one day we might all be using online learning instead of face-to-face learning. Online

learning, face-to-face classes and social media have all changed education, for better or worse.

My first source is Web-based learning: pros, cons, and controversies. This explains a list of

pros and cons for overall learning online. The source says “The pros of online learning are,

overcoming barriers of distance and time, economies of scale, and novel instructional methods.

Cons of online learning are social isolation, upfront costs, and technical problems.” (Cook)

Online learning is more of just a whole lot of instructions then teaching. Also, online learning is

more vision than reality. Then certain people are using the online sites to use online sources and

they are using them in the wrong ways. Now there are a lot of different ways people learn by

pictures, listening, or alone, in group and one on one learning. For me I learn best by pictures and

one on one I usually get lost when doing group activities unless I do it by myself. But other

people could learn by listening and in a group, it just depends on the person. Next, online

learning would work best if you are a one on one learning person. For online learning it is just

you and the instructor. But if you are a group learning type of person face-to-face learning would

be best. Online learning has multiple pros and cons. But online learning only works with certain

people and how they learn. (Cook)

My second source is A Review of Benefits and Limitations of Online Learning in the

Context of the Student, the Instructor and the Tenured Faculty. This lists the type of ways people

can learn though online sources. This source explains the different types of ways you can learn

online and how different sources there are. There are also different ways people can learn online.

Then the second source is to show how many ways you can learn online. People can learn online

from television, video tape, computer's, e-mail, and mail. Also, the source says “Among them

are: (a) online learning start-up funding, (b) organizational preparedness, and (c) student

readiness. This article will review the benefits and limitations of online learning from three

perspectives namely, (a) the student, (b) the instructor, and (c) the tenured faculty (faculty

offering the programme).” People can learn through different ways and different types of sources

online you can use to learn. “Automatically’ (1)

My next source is comparing asynchronous online discussions and face-to-face

discussions in a classroom setting. They had a study to investigate the differences between

online discussions and face-to-face discussions in a classroom setting. The results showed that

atmosphere, response, efficiency, interactivity and communication were the top five themes that

differ between online and face-to-face discussions. Then how they cannot mix them into each

other. Next is to show the differences of online learning and face-to-face learning. Like

atmosphere, response, efficiency, interactivity, and communication. To show that these five

elements that differ from online learning form face-to-face learning could be fixed in later dates.

But also, could be adapted to the online sites. In conclusion there are five elements that differ

from online learning from face-to-face learning but maybe be able to change in the future. They

might have people doing online schooling but must go to the nearest school to have some face-

to-face learning to help have those five elements all together, so it might help the student be

more successful. (Wang)

Now a days in school social media is used a lot in classes, in the high school we use it in

Mrs. Packard's to leave to go to the bathroom or nurse or anywhere else that you need to go.

Then the online website keeps track of your names and where you have been. Also, in chemistry

we used course sites to do work sheets and take quizzes and tests. But every day and probably

every class that people have you use the internet at some point. Maybe not all the time but at

some point, you will have to use the internet to do work. Social media also helps you talk to your

teachers and help with turning in work. Since everyone has some form of social media it is

helpful to use because you can do it from your phone. But the other side to this is that not

everyone has a phone and maybe at least one person in the class would not have social media.

Then would feel left out of the project. Also, some might have to use data so either the school

would have to supply Wi-Fi for the kids to use in school or the families might get mad because

the phone bill will be going up. While there are some positives and some negatives to using

social media in the classroom. But that can go with any topic in school.

In conclusion online learning, face-to-face classes and social media have all changed

education, for better or worse. The first is when the source is about the pros and the cons of

online learning, then the second source is the pros and cons of face-to-face learning, then the last

source is what the five main differences are between online learning and face-to-face learning.

Then a paragraph about how we use social media in schools and the pros and cons of that. Next,

people can do both online learning and face-to-face leaning, for some people online leaning will

work for them but for some people face-to-face learning might work best for them. It just

depends on how the person learns and how to benefit them.
