Chapter 1- Introduction
The BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY gave the readers an overview of what the research is all about
describing the problem situation. It may include current data on the performance of the target
3
respondents. E.g. Grades of students in the previous quarter to denote low performance and/or results of
achievement test.
The BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY justified the existence of the problem by citing statistical data and
authoritative sources presented from global to local. It may include the latest DepEd reports or findings 2
from credible organizations and/ or agencies.
The BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY included a discussion of the intervention selected. A brief history of the
2
intervention, its developers/proponents and how it is being implemented is included in the discussion.
The BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY included at least five (5) citations of previous researches on how
3
effective the selected intervention is.
The BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY included the aim of the Action Research, explained its importance and
the reason for selecting the topic. E.g. if the researcher used the Input-Process-Output framework, a 2
discussion regarding the elements in the framework was discussed.
The CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK identified and discussed the variables related to the problem. 1
The PARADIGM OF THE STUDY was designed to describe the relationship of the different elements or 1
variables involved in the study.
The STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM contained a main problem that generally reflects the title of the
research and its objectives. It is stated in a declarative way.
1
The STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM included sub-problems that are to be answered specifically and are
arranged in a logical order. It is stated using interrogative sentences.

1
There was a presented HYPOTHESIS when comparison of measurable data or test for relationships is part
of the subject of the Action Research. It was stated in a null form. The term “hypothesis” was used and
not the “null hypothesis”.
The content of the SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY discussed substantially how the findings of the research
was beneficial to the respondents and to the other stakeholders. A very short discussion of this does not
justify the importance or usefulness of the Action Research.
1
The recipients of the Action Research were identified and included in the SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY.

This includes the indirect beneficiaries of the Action Research such as the parents of the learners, etc. The
researcher may include the DepEd and discuss the importance of the Action Research in relation to the
mission, vision and objectives of the department.
Chapter 2- Methodology
The STATE-DEFINE-JUSTIFY way of presentation was followed in the RESEARCH DESIGN.
Example:
Research Design
<STATE>The researcher made use of descriptive research. <DEFINE-at least two definitions>
Saunders (2016) defined descriptive research as ... According to Cooper (2018), descriptive research is…
<JUSTIFY- relate and discuss thoroughly why you selected such design> The researcher selected the use of
descriptive research because…
The SOURCES OF DATA described the place where the study was conducted including the research
population or the sampling method used in determining the subjects of the study.
The INSTRUMENTATION AND DATA COLLECTION followed the STATE-DEFINE-JUSTIFY way of presenting
the description of the instrument.
The INSTRUMENTATION AND DATA COLLECTION described the instrument, what is measured, how it was 5
interpreted and to whom and how it was administered
The INSTRUMENTATION mentioned the type of instruments used including the rating scales, schedule
when the intervention is conducted, tally sheets, performance checklists and others.
If a questionnaire was used, the INSTRUMENTATION AND DATA COLLECTION included a discussion on the
test conducted to ensure the questionnaire’s validity and reliability.
The TOOLS FOR DATA ANALYSIS followed the STATE-DEFINE-JUSTIFY way of presentation.
The TOOLS FOR DATA ANALYSIS presented the statistical tools or the treatment employed in the analysis
and interpretation of the collected data.
Included in the TOOLS FOR DATA ANALYSIS is a description of the tools used for data analysis for each of
the problems.
The numerical and descriptive values to interpret data is determined and justified under the TOOLS FOR
DATA ANALYSIS.

Chapter 3- Results and Discussions
The subtopics in Chapter 3 corresponds to the number of questions in the Statement of the Problem. For
example:

Given the following sub-problems:
1. What is the performance of the Grade 5 pupils before the use of graphic organizers?
2. What is the performance of the Grade 5 pupils after the use of graphic organizers?
3. Is there a significant difference between the performance of the Grade 5 pupils before and
after the use of graphic organizers?

So, the sub-sections in Chapter 3 will be:
Performance of the Grade 5 pupils Before the Use of Graphic Organizers (for sub-problem No. 1)
<DISCUSSIONS> 3 Pages
Performance of the Grade 5 pupils After the Use of Graphic Organizers (for sub-problem No. 2) per sub-
< DISCUSSIONS > problem
Difference Between the Performance of the Grade 5 pupils Before and After the Use of Graphic Organizers (in the
(for sub-problem No. 3) case of
< DISCUSSIONS > the given
The PRESENT-SHOW-DISCUSS is followed in the presentation of tables/figures/plates. example,
Example: 9 pages is

<FIGURE TITLE, in the case of tables, the TABLE TITLE is placed above the table>

<DISCUSS and analyze the contents of the figure (for tables, avoid table reading)>

The result of the hypothesis testing is presented. The hypothesis is either accepted or rejected.

Chapter 4- Summary of Findings, Conclusions and Recommendations
The SUMMARY OF FINDINGS included a brief statement of the research objectives.
The SUMMARY OF FINDINGS included the research problems in paragraph form.
The SUMMARY OF FINDINGS included a summary of the methodology.
The SUMMARY OF FINDINGS included the major findings of the study and the results of the hypothesis
testing.
The CONCLUSIONS contained brief, generalized statements deduced from the findings to answer the
general and sub-problems.
The CONCLUSIONS were clearly aligned to the research problems, briefly worded and directly answering in 4
sequential order the research problems.
The CONCLUSIONS were not restatement of the findings and free from any misleading impression, bias or
unfair and incorrect generalization.
The CONCLUSIONS were stated in paragraph form.
The RECOMMENDATIONS were acceptable and relevant suggestions that offer solutions to the problems
or issues presented in the study based from the conclusions.
The RECOMMENDATIONS were presented in an enumerated and numbered format.
General Guidelines

chapter title. applicable
Included in the BIBLIOGRAPHY is a list of all materials used and reviewed and arranged according to type.
All sources listed in this section were cited in the body of the paper.
For Action Researches that used materials developed by others, the researcher should also have a
complete listing of these adopted materials. E.g. Action Researches that used Multimedia, Animation and
or Videos downloaded from the internet should be acknowledged. A letter seeking for permission to use
these materials is also required and included in the Appendices.
The Appendices included the following: Permit to Conduct the Study; Raw Data used in the Study; Pictures
of the Intervention materials used; and, Pictures while conducting the study.
4
The Curriculum Vitae of the researcher is included in the last section of the manuscript.
No chapter introduction in all the 4 chapters. Does not include statements that discusses the contents of
the chapters.
White spaces are not present. The flow of discussion is continuous across each chapter.
