Philosophy of Education

Growing up I always looked up the most to teachers that wanted us to become a better us,

and apply our knowledge, that they taught us to the real world. Watching teachers being so

passionate about teaching, and seeing them get excited about their students learning, and

applying their knowledge outside of the classroom was always the kind of teacher I aspired to be.

Teachers can teach all day with no passion or effort to teach their students, but what really counts

at the end of the day is how they approach each, and every student. How much teachers inspire

their students to learn, and become a better overall person is my teaching philosophy.

I am convinced that teachers are meant to teach, but also help their students to

become passionate about the world around them, and improve or reshape the society that we live

in. Providing authentic learning activities that both instruct students, and improve society is what

I strive for. The famous social reconstruction philosopher George S. Counts once said “An

Education that does not strive to promote the fullest, and most thorough understanding of the

world is not worthy of the name.” That quote is powerful to a great extent because it is true in

every sense because learning should be tied into the real world, and applied to help society.

Reaching out to students in this sense of teaching will help the student be passionate about

education, while also making students aware of the inequalities that surround them, and to

emotionally stir them.

To teach means to enhance knowledge, and make sure your students walk out of your

classroom with new knowledge and, a positive outlook in life. We want to contribute to raising a

generation with great succeses, and teaching kids that no dream is too big as long as you set your

mind to it, you will be able to achieve it. Teachers should teach students the bigger picture, and

help students analyze world problems then let them come up with their own perspectives on

them. Teachers have the power of teaching their students, that not always everything that’s right,

is right, and wrong is wrong just because that’s how most people view it. They can have their

own personal opinions, and beliefs and reinforce them.

Another big factor that a lot of teachers seem to miss is how enjoyable, and personal they

make the learning experience for the kids. I remember when I was in grade school, I had some

amazing teachers, however I also had some not so pleasant ones. They would be moody, and just

give us paper, after paper assignments. They never made it personal or fun. There was never any

motivation for a career in my future aspired by them, they just wanted us to learn enough to pass

our TAKs tests. Now thinking about it I never learned much from those types of teachers

because they had no passion to teach or do good in our lives, just get us passed their grade level

and onto the next.

In my opinion the purpose of education is to guide and equip students with the tools and

knowledge to become not only good students, but also good citizens, who are caring, and

compassionate individuals that positively contribute to the community to make it better by

problem solving skills, and working together. I also deeply believe that students learn through

what interests them, having passion for a change, and a better life. In their learning process they

the tools to solve problems, and accomplish their goals in their careers, and overall lives.

Teaching curriculum that is vital for student’s moral principle, and encourages them to think

about ethical issues, inequalities, and how to solve social problems is a major key factor on

students sucesses.

All in all my goal as a teacher is to inspire students to be the best version of themselves that

they can possibly be, individuals who are passionate, respectful, loving, and smart members of

their community.
