Installation Instructions for InPower

Be sure to review these instructions before starting
the installation. Improper installation can result in
equipment or systems problems.
ADMINISTRATOR RIGHTS
Administrator rights are required to install InPower.
User’s Guide
The InPower User’s Guide is installed on the PC in
the InPower program group. After installing this
product, use the Start menu to access the InPower
start menu group to select and view the User’s
Guide.
Adobe Reader is required to view the User’s Guide.
Information on obtaining a free copy of Adobe
Reader is available on the Adobe web site.
InPower Registration
 An IBM PC or 100% compatible PC
 Supported Operating Systems: Windows Vis-
ta, Windows 7, or Windows 8 (see details in
the following table)
Please note that InPower does not support Windows
95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, or Windows NT.
 Windows Vista Capable, Windows Vista Pre-
mium Ready, or Windows 7
 Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or
higher
 SVGA (1024 x 768) color display
 Windows compatible pointing device and
101-key enhanced keyboard

This section does not apply to InPower Onan.  CD-ROM

Following a successful InPower installation, the  One free serial communications port or USB
user is prompted to register the product the first time to serial converter
InPower is launched. This applies to all users, in-
cluding those who have previously registered the  Windows compatible printer (optional)
product.
 Installation on SSD cards is not supported
For more information about registration, click Help
in the InPower registration wizard.
Windows Vista requires the use of Adobe Acrobat 8
PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS or newer.

During installation, pop-up messages may be dis-
played behind an open window. If the installation
program is not responding, check the taskbar, or
press Alt+Tab to display hidden windows. Review
and close any pop-up messages.

For help at any time, click Installation Help.

2. Open the folder in which you downloaded In-
Power, and double-click the file you down-
loaded.
3. If the PC asks for an administrator password,
provide the required information. Otherwise,
the InPower setup wizard appears.

If a previous version of InPower is installed on
the PC, the InPower setup wizard notifies you
that you have to remove it.
If you do not want to remove it, click No, and the
rest of the installation is cancelled.
Click Yes to remove the previous version.

6. Click OK to confirm the removal of the previous

version. The InPower setup wizard removes
the previous version of InPower.

If you do not want to remove it, click Cancel,

7. When the removal is complete, click Finish to
proceed with the installation of InPower.
9. Select the folder in which you want to install In-
Power, and click Next.

11. Review the settings. Click Next to continue, or
click Back to change them.
When you click Next, the InPower setup wizard
will install InPower. When the installation is
complete, the following screen appears.

12. Select View ReadMe if you want to review the
release notes now. You can also review this file
later. Click Next to continue.
13. If you selected View ReadMe, the readme file
appears in the InPower setup wizard. Other-
wise, the InPower setup wizard skips this step.

14. Click Finish to close InPower setup wizard.
15. If the InPower version is upgraded, existing
data such as TPL files, Capture files, and Re-
ports will be moved to a new installed location
so that the data will not be lost.

UNINSTALLATION PROCEDURE
The uninstallation procedure is the same on all oper-
ating systems. The examples in this section are from
Windows 7.
Administrator rights are required to install InPower.
The uninstallation procedure does not remove the
folder in which you store strip chart and monitor
files.
1. Open the InPower start menu folder. The path
varies by version of InPower and by operating
system. For example, for InPower ATS on Win-
dows 7, click Start > All Programs > InPower
ATS.

2. Select Uninstall.
3. If the PC asks for an administrator password,
provide the required information. Otherwise,
the InPower uninstallation wizard appears.
4. Follow the directions in the InPower uninstalla-
tion wizard to remove InPower from the PC.
SERVICE AND SUPPORT
If you have a problem with the software, follow
these steps.
1. Take a screenshot of the error message. For
example, press Prnt Scrn, open Microsoft
Paint, and save the file.
2. Copy the latest installation log at:
<installed location>\Program Files\Power
Generation\Installation Logs
3. Send the screenshot and latest installation log
to your distributor.
If you are a distributor, contact Cummins Power
Generation using standard channels.
