Cabinet abolishes ministries’ budgetary
allocations for entertainment, gifts

ISLAMABAD (APP): Federal Cabinet on Tuesday decided to
abolish all the ministries and divisions budgetary allocations
meant for entertainment and gifts with an aim to ensure judi-
cious utilization of public money for welfare of the common
man. “There were some provisions in ministries and divisions,
under which funds were allocated for ‘chai and pani’ (tea and
water).The cabinet has formally abolished these provisions
today. So now there will be no entertainment and gift funds
there,” Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Infor-
mation and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said while
briefing media on the Federal Cabinet meeting.
She said the cabinet also decided to end the culture of
additional charge in all the ministries and divisions within next
three months as such posts would be filled properly. No sum-
mary for approval of additional charge would be presented in
the cabinet in future, she added. The SAPM said the cabinet
meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, deliberated
on 16 agenda items and most important among them was en-
suring improved supply of electricity to consumers during the
holy month of Ramazan especially at Sehr and Iftar hours.
She said the cabinet ratified the decisions of previous meet-
ing of Economic Coordination Committee.
Firdous Ashiq Awan said the cabinet was briefed by Edu-
cation Minister Shafqat Mahmood regarding initiatives to bring
30,000 Madaris into national mainstream.
She said wrong perception was made in media that these
Madaris would be under the Ministry of Education. Rather,
these would be linked with the Ministry but work indepen-
dently.
She said the education minister apprised the cabinet
that one window registration of these Madaris and m oni-
t o r i n g o f t h e i r f u n d s w e r e im p or ta nt fo r th eir
mainstreaming.
She said the ministry of education would play the role of a
facilitator to the Madaris, adding that modern education was the
right of the every children studying at the Madaris. “We wanted
to provide modern and quality education to them as they are

Rs564.2 billion released for

development projects under PSDP
ISLAMABAD (APP): The
federal government has re-
leased Rs564.2 billion for vari-
ous ongoing and new social
sector uplift projects under its
Public Sector Development
Programme (PSDP) 2018-19
as against the total allocation
of Rs675 billion.
Under its development
program, the government has
released an amount of Rs22.66
billion for federal ministries,
whereas Rs22.9 billion for cor-
porations and Rs38.1 billion
for special areas, according to
a latest data released by Min-
istry of Planning, Develop-
ment and Reform.
Out of these allocations,
th e go vern ment released
Rs217.4 billion for National
Highway Authority (NHA)
out of its total allocation of
Rs185.197 billion.
Under annual develop-
ment agenda, the government
also released Rs11.61 billion
for National Transmission and
Despatch Company and Pa-
kistan Electric Power Com-
pany for which an amount of
Rs33.365 billion was allocated
under PSDP 2018-19.
Similarly, Rs10.13 billion
released for Communication
Division (other than NHA) as
the government earmarked
Rs13.977 billion in its PSDP
2018-19.
Railways Divisio n re-
ceived Rs23.22 billion out of
its total allocation of Rs28.06
billion whereas Aviation Divi-
sion received Rs1.33 billion
out of total allo cation of
Rs3.65 billion.
The government also re-
leased an amount of Rs28.98
billion for various develop-
ment projects of Higher Edu-
cation Commission as against
the total allo cation of
Rs30.961 billion for current
fiscal year.
Under PSDP 2018-19,

care during the holy month

ing because they can experi-
ence severe complications if
they suffer dehydration,”
warns Dr.
Individuals who work
outdoor during daylight hours,
or who work in very warm or
less-ventilated environments
such as factories, kitchens, or
bakeries are also more suscep-
tible to dehydration, she said.
However, Dr says re-

vent those who fall into this
category from the risks of
heat-related illnesses.
In the case of heat stroke,
it is important to get immedi-
ate medical attention.
Having a balanced diet of
proteins, minerals, carbohy-
drates, fluids and fibres while
keeping blood sugar levels un-
der control is the key to
healthy fasting for diabetics,
she said, adding that breaking
fast with three dates and a
glass of water helps regain en-
ergy and bring blood sugar level
to normal.
Eating sweets immedi-
ately after Iftar can lead to
bloating, delayed digestion and
fluctuations in blood sugar lev-
els, which eventually makes
diabetics crave more sweets.
She noted that children
below eight years of age are
not recommended to fast and
those above that age should be
taught about the issues in-
volved and they should break
their fast if they are feeling
unwell.
Parents should not force
their children to fast and pre-
pare them in a phased manner
by asking them to fast for six
hours until they are prepared,
she said.
She also advised people
with diabetes to have plenty
of liquids in evening, but they
should be free of sugar and
caffeine to avoid dehydration.

said that steps are being taken to
investigate the spread of HIV AIDS
in Larkana district of Sindh. He,
while taking notice of information on
the subject, had directed Health De-
partment, Sindh to provide every
possible assistance to masses on
urgent basis.
Besides, a team of Federal Gov-
ernment is screening people in af-
fected areas along with officials of
Sindh Government. More than
4,000 people were screened for HIV
AIDS, while 157 cases were discov-
ered as positive. Federal Ministry of
Health is fully supporting the pro-
vincial Health Department in terms
of HIV testing Kits and medicinal
supplies. AIDS is spreading rapidly
in Pakistan, especially in two cities
Karachi and Larkana of Sindh prov-
ince. HIV and AIDS patients are
growing rapidly. According to the
Sindh AIDS Control Program, the
basic reasons of AIDS are drugs,
men and women, sex workers and
transgender.
According to the figures of Sindh
AIDS Control Program, January
2012, registered number of HIV pa-
tients with the highest number of
HIV positive patients in Karachi
were 3,569 while 57 people here are
entitled to AIDS disease. The sec-
ond number was Larkana, where
the number of HIV positive patients
was 238, while three were suffer-
ing from AIDS. Dr. Suleman Odho
of Sindh AIDS Control Program
said that in 2010, most of the pa-
tients of AIDS were in Larkana,
two years later Karachi had gone
beyond Larkana. According to Dr.
Odho, the number of patients
with HIV positives and AIDS pa-
tients were increased due to use of
drugs by young people. Second im-
portant reason is insecure sex rela-
tions or sexual misbehavior.
Most of the patients are not lim-
ited to their spouse. Similarly, fe-
male sex workers themselves suf-
fer from AIDS and cause others suf-
fer from this disease. He said that
in recent years, transgender popu-
lation have increased in Karachi and
HIV is sexually transmitted due to
their involvement in sex business.
Some experts say that awareness of
people about HIV and AIDS has im-
proved since before but still people
needs to know on mass level.
At present the federal govern-
ment and all the provincial govern-
ments have need many measures
to improve public health, the top
p ri o ri t y m u s t b e t o c o n t r o l

There is no any part of Pakistan
where the quack and fake doc-
tors do not exist. But due to the

Palm oil imports decrease
10.22 pc to $1.386 billion
ISLAMABAD (APP): The
palm oil imports into the coun-
try witnessed negative growth
of 10.22 percent during the
first three quarters of the cur-
rent fiscal year against the im-
ports of same period of last
year.
The p alm o il im ports
into the country during July-
March (2018-19) were re-
corded at $1386.074 million
again st the imp orts o f
$1543.880 million during July-
March (2017-18), showing
increase of 10.22 percent, ac-
cording to Pakistan Bureau of
Statistics.
In terms of quantity, Pa-
kistan imported 2,325,639
metric tons of palm oil during
the period under review com-
pared to the imp orts o f
2,117,612 metric tons last
year, showing increase of 9.82
percent. On the other hand, the
soyabean oil imports into the
country also decreased by
38.04 percent by going down
from $110.568 million last
year to $68.503 during the
current fiscal year. In terms of
quantity, the soyabean oil im-
ports decreased from 125,193
metric tons to 95,112 metric
tons, showing decline of 24.03
percent. Meanwhile, on year-

2019, according to the data.

March (2018-19) as the deficit
contracted by over US $ 3.544

APNS expresses dismay

(APNS) expresses its d is-

by the Federal Government

Dawn Media Group.
The APNS in a press
statement, strongly condemned
the use of government adver-
tising as a lever to force the
media to act as per their dicta-
tion which tantamounts to a
significant and undesirable curb
on the Freedom of press. The
APNS noted that such actions
aim to strangulate the dissent-
ing voices, and are unconsti-
tutional as well as a gross vio-
lation of democratic norms.
This policy pursued earlier by
dictatorial regimes is contrary
to Article 19 enshrined in the
Constitution of Pakistan which
guarantees the Freedom of Press.
The APNS recalled that
Mr. Imran Khan, Prime Min-
ister of Pakistan in a meeting
with the APNS held in last
October, had assured the press
in clear terms that his govern-
ment would protect and safe-
guard the Freedom of Press in
contrast to certain quarters in gov-
ernment which are consistently
pursuing a policy to control the
press by arm - twisting actions
through the use of government
advertising as a lever to silence
differing opinions.

three Chinese nationals were
arrested by FIA Rawalpindi
accused of trafficking Paki-
stani girls to China. The gang
was led by a Chinese national
Song Chuaoyang who was also
arrested.
Acco rding to Deputy
Director FIA Kamran Ali, the
Chinese nationals were in-
volved in fake marriages with
Pakistani girls and later using
them for prostitution and or-
gan removal.
On Monday, FIA busted
a racket of Chinese nationals
involved in trafficking Paki-
stani girls to China by con-
tracting marriages.
