3. BRIEF HISTORY
Established in 2003, First Marble & Granite is one of the leading Marble, Granite & Stone
firms located in the state of Qatar. Our specialization is in visualizing and executing our
clients' thoughts and needs using various engineering and artistic capabilities up to the
industry's best standards.
With a highly developed factory located in the Industrial area of Doha, and an office and
showroom at Salwa Road, Doha; First Marble & Granite offers trading activities, import
and supply, of a wide range of Marble, Granite and stone products; supported by design,
manufacturing, execution and installation work along to engineering, construction and
maintenance solutions.
First Marble & Granite has more than 167 engineers, technicians and skilled workers and
supporters with expertise in several project types and sizes ranging from individual
residential villas to high rise buildings and major projects currently being developed in
Qatar.
Over the years, First Marble & Granite has established an excellent reputation and
relationships with the world’s best suppliers of high quality products from different

4. FACTORY
Our factory is amongst the top factories and most advanced in the state of Qatar, and is
equipped with the state of the art machines to meet the most sophisticated job
requirements with competitive production and efficiency.
First Marble & Granite new factory located in the new industrial area management by
the Ministry of Energy and Industry - Department of Industrial Estates, was developed to
meet the international standards while being environmentally friendly. Additionally, with
our highly developed machineries and well trained employees, the factory has the
capacity to deliver large quantity goods within short time frames to satisfy several huge
projects being developed in Qatar. To facilitate an appropriate working environment, we
have developed two stories, 640 meter square, of offices in the factory for quality
control.
In addition to our current machines, the new factory will have four Italian water jet
machines, high advanced Italian edge-polishing machine, six Italian bridge cutter
machines, two Italian CNC bridge cutter machines, two Italian universal profiling
machines, automatic stone lathe machine, five access machine center CNC, four polishing
machines, water treatment flamed machines and bush hammer machine.
As a main importers and suppliers of marble, granite and stone; all equipped with the
most advanced machinery, skilled technical employees and dedicated customer services;
First Marble & Granite has the opportunity to compete across the region and become a

16. STONE FINISHES
Natural stone comes in a varying degree of finishes. These are listed in ascending order,
for each stone, from smoothest to roughest:
 Granite Polished, honed, rubbed, abrasive, diamond sawn, thermal (flamed,

exfoliated).
 Marble Polished, honed, abrasive.
 Limestone Polished (dense limestone’s only), honed, cleft, rustic.
 Slate Honed, abrasive, cleft.
 Bluestone (basalt) Honed, diamond sawn.
 Sandstone Abrasive, diamond sawn, cleft.
WATER ABSORPTION, POROSITY AND DENSITY
Water absorption is the proportion of water able to be absorbed by stone under specific
immersion conditions. The value obtained provides some indication of the stone’s
performance in service, particularly its strength, durability and stain resistance. The water
absorption value is also closely related to its inherent apparent porosity, i.e. the volume of
open pores accessible to moisture within the stone. The bulk density (mass per unit volume)
depends not only on the porosity but also on the mineral density of its components. The bulk
density is important in calculating the weight of the stone in a wall or constructional
element. According to Spry [4], sandstones with a bulk density of less than 2.2 g/cm3 have
been found to be of poor quality.
Compressive Strength
Uniaxial unconfined compressive strength is the measure of the load that a stone can take
before it crushes, and as such a measure of the stone’s ability to support load-bearing
structures. In more specific terms, it is a measure of the applied stress (load per unit area) at
failure. Natural stone is generally strong in compression, but it can vary widely. Stones less
than 7 MPa are comparatively weak, while those greater than 140 MPa are considered very
strong. Compressive strength increases with decreasing grain size in homogeneous rocks.
The test is performed on sawn cubes or on core-drilled cylinders usually in both dry and wet
states. As most modern stone installations are non- load-bearing, the test has little direct
relevance for cladding systems. It can be useful in evaluating different stones for floor
applications if density, abrasion and slip resistance are also considered. The strength of the
stone is often related to its durability; stones having high strength are generally more
durable, although strength may decrease with weathering.

Flexural Strength
The flexural strength (bending strength) of the stone is critical in both the design and
detailing of building facades, and also for use as a flooring material. It is useful in
determining the maximum load a stone panel can withstand in a curtain-wall system with
anchors located at the edges of the panel. It also assists in the evaluation of the stone’s
resistance to wind loads. Flexural strength is a measure of the tensile strength induced by
bending; it is highly affected by the stone’s surface condition on the face that is in tension.
For example, the flexural strength of thermally finished granite is generally 30% lower than
polished granite. In stones displaying preferred grain orientations, the highest results are
obtained when the tensile stress is applied parallel to the grain rather than across it.
Modulus of Rupture
This is a similar test to the method for flexural strength but with loading at a single point.
The modulus of rupture (or transverse strength) measures the combined shear strength and
diagonal strength of the stone. The test causes the failure to occur directly under the load
(and not at its weakest point), and the specimen sizes bear little relationship to the actual
thickness of the stone. It is valuable in determining the strength of the stone at its point of
attachment with anchoring devices.

POLICY STATEMENT ON SAFETY AND HEALTH
The safety and health of all employees of FIRST MARBLE & GRANITE are of primary
importance. The prevention of work related injuries shall be given precedence over
operating productivity. All personnel shall practice safety at all times.
Recognizing that responsible for safety by all employees of FIRST MARBLE & GRANITE,
we have established the following:
FIRST MARBLE & GRANITE accepts responsibilities for enacting, maintaining and
improving our company’s safety and health standards and expected full cooperation by
all its employees toward the prevention or occupational (job-related) accidents, injuries
and/or illness.
FIRST MARBLE & GRANITE will follow the SAFETY POLICY as imposed by the Main
Contractor.
FIRST MARBLE & GRANITE will assign an employee, responsible for the implementation
and maintenance of the company safety program. He shall be designated as FIRST
MARBLE & GRANITE ’S Safety Coordinator. The Safety Coordinator will be responsible for
developing the proper attitude towards safety and health in all employees and for
ensuring that all operations are performed with the utmost regard for safety of all.
The safety coordinator shall also be responsible to see that all employees have received
training in the safe performance of the job.
Each employee is responsible for wholehearted cooperation with all aspects of safety and
health, including compliance with all safety-related rules and regulations and for
continually practicing safety while performing his duties.

CODE OF SAFETY PRACTICES
FIRST MARBLE & GRANITE has adopted the following Code of Safety for use by its
employee under appropriate circumstances.
The shop supervisor will see that all field equipment is used in a safe manner and that all
personnel operating field equipment have had adequate training in the operation of this
equipment. Each job site supervisor is responsible for :
- Inspecting machinery and tools to be certain they are being used in a safe manner.
- Making certain the job site conditions do not present a hazard to FIRST MARBLE &
GRANITE’s employee.
- All safety regulations have been met.
- Notify the safety coordinators of unsafe job conditions.
- Implement at site full PPE (White Coverall)
- All employees shall follow safe practices, use personal protective equipment as
required, render every possible effort to safe operations and report all unsafe
conditions or practices to his or her immediate supervisor or FIRST MARBLE &
GRANITE safety coordinator.
- All unsafe, unhealthy, of hazardous conditions or places shall immediately
classified off-limits, out of order or out of bounds and then promptly removed or
corrected.
- The safety coordinator shall insist that all employees observe and obey every rule,
regulation and order as necessary for the safe conduct of the work.
- All employees shall be given frequent accident prevention instructions.
- No one will be allowed on the job or in the shop while under the influence of liquor
or drugs.
- No one shall knowingly be permitted or required to work with impaired ability or
alertness caused by fatigue, illness or the factors which might cause employee or
others to be exposed to accident or injury.
- All chemical material shall be stored in the identified place.

Description :
Kashmir White granite is a fine to medium-grained, dark white
to light grey, migmatitic granulite of the Precambrian period,
with blackberry-colored garnets. This stone internationally
may be nominated as granite but in the area of application of
the European Standard this stone must be nominated as a
granulite. During the polishing process clear epoxy resin filler
may be used to fill any micro fissures or tiny pitting however
this does not affect the integrity of the stone, it merely
provides an even smoother surface finish. Kashmir White
