Vedic Astrology has stood many tests of time ever since the great sage Bhrigu introduced

this divine knowledge, which can forecasts the events based on the influence of the
heavenly bodies on us.
Forecasting Health and Disease from the Horoscope of a native
Vedic Astrology is a great tool, wherein an experienced and learned Astrologer can see
what disease the native is suffering from or is likely to suffer from. The Astrologer need
not be a medical expert or for that matter he may not be able to name the disease in
particular. But the Astrologer can certainly pin point what system or organ of the human
body is venerable or is likely to be affected seriously.
The house of Disease
The 6th house is mentioned as the house of disease, sickness etc. besides other negative
happenings and adversities in the native’s life.
This is not all. One must check the 6th house from MOON, SUN and also from the house
where theMahaDasha Lord is posited from.
The next step is to analyze the strength and position of the lord of the 6th house vis-à-vis
the Lord of Ascendant. Generally, if the Ascendant and Lagna lord are stronger than the
lord of 6th house then the native will pull through and recover from the illness – should
there be any.
Then it is necessary to see the planets posited in the 6th house and also the nature and
humor of planets aspecting the 6th house.
Also for any native, the 6th house is supposed to represent the stomach region
comprising of abdomen, intestines, navel and kidneys.
Which other houses and planets should be studied in Medical Astrology
Each planet, house, zodiac sign and aspect besides the Nakshatras (constellation) has
some hidden message about the health or ill-health of the native.
At the same time, it may be helpful to keep in mind the information in the following
tables:

The head and the face are the main parts of the body denoted by the
first house. It involves the complexion, cranium, forehead, brain, hair,
pituitary glands, etc. If the first house in our natal chart is weak then it
results in a sickly constitution, thereby leading to headache, mental
tension, paralysis, giddiness, wounds, scars, erratic activity of endocrine
glands, derangement, brain fever, stupidity, nose bleeding, etc.
2. Taurus or 2H Face, eyes, nose, tongue, teeth, ears, fingers, nails, bones, flesh.
Throat and the ears are the main parts of the body signified by the
second house. It generally rules the organs like nose, throat, mouth,
tongue, teeth and eyes, especially the right one, facial bones, upper
neck and its bones, gullet, larynx, cerebellum, trachea, cervical region
and cervical bones, tonsils, etc. Implication of poor digestion, disorders
of speech, throat, cervical, gums, eyes, teeth, etc., and diseases mainly
arising out of a weak venous system shows a weak second house in your
natal chart.
3. Gemini or 3H Neck, throat, collar bones, hands, breathing, body growth.
Shoulders, arms, the collar bone, hands, lungs and the nervous system
are the main parts of the body denoted by the third house. The lower
neck, shoulders, arms, ears hands, shoulders, collar bones, thyroid
gland, respiratory and nervous systems are ruled by the third house. A
birth chart showing a weak third house brings problems of respiratory
canal, disorders of thyroid, imbalances in the nervous system,
depression resulting in partial paralysis, stammering, shoulder pains,
fracture in the collar bone region, partial deafness, respiratory diseases,
asthma, tuberculosis, etc.
4. Cancer or 4H Heart, lungs, chest, breast, blood, and diaphragm.
5. Leo or 5H Upper abdomen, mind, heart, liver, gall bladder, spleen, intestines,
mesentery.
6. Virgo or 6H Lower abdomen, navel, bones, flesh, mental faculties, anus, kidneys.

Other important considerations

 Similarly, it is the Dasha System, followed by the study of the transit of the planets which
will reveal the exact time and duration of disease.

 The formation of certain Yogas (combination) of planets will disclose much more
information about the nature of disease. For example, if the Sun or Moon occupies the
12th house, there could be eye disease. Similarly, affliction to the Sun, Leo and the 5th
causes heart ailments.

 Kindly note that the idea is not to overload the reader of this article with all the
technicalities which go into the study of Medical Astrology. In fact, it would be beyond the
scope of one article like this one on Medical Astrology to talk in depth about the scope of
Medical Astrology. But certainly an attempt has made to share with the readers how
Medical Astrology can help them know about the diseases, afflictions and ailments from
which a native may suffer, when and for how long.
So let us take some examples to illustrate this point, as below –

Case I (AK) December 15, 1968

The native, for the last many years is suffering from

piles (hemorrhoids). You will notice the pressures of 4
planets – in the 8th house, which also represents the
generative organs. MOON is the lord of 6th house of
disease is present here and also getting afflicted by
Ketu and Mars. These two fiery planets are also
indicating the nature of problem. These malefic
planets are also adding to the intensity of the
problem.

The Lagna lord too (SATURN) is contributing the problem – being the 12th lord
(hospitalization) itself and is being aspected by MOON, MARS and KETU. Waning MOON
in 8th house, afflicted by SATURN and MARS is also a combination for piles.
 Case 2 (AP)February 5, 1969

This is the case of a person who is a heart patient

right from his childhood. His both parents are
doctors. He has had 2 major heart surgeries – one in
his childhood and the other one about 2 years
back.
4th and 5th house represent chest and heart
respectively. Similarly MARS indicates surgery and
SUN is the karka (significator) of heart.

You will notice that there is aspect of MARS on SUN which is posited in the 7th house
with retrograde MERCURY.
Further analysis will show that:
 MARS is the 5th house lord
 MARS is the positioned in the 4th house
 SUN is being aspected by JUPITER (posited with KETU) which is the lord of 6th house
 SUN is in the sign of SATURN, which is also the lord of 8th house (death).

Case 3 (RB)January 9, 1942

For the last several years, the native is suffering

from:
 Heart Disease
Kidney Problems
His condition is so bad, that he has to go for
dialysis every week.

If you cast a careful look, it would be found that:

1. Moon (the karka of kidneys) is aspected by retrograde JUPITER which is the lord of
6th house of disease.
2. The 6th house (denoting kidneys) is occupied by a malefic planet SUN.
3. The 7th house (also denoting kidneys) is occupied by MERCURY which has lordship
of 2 bad houses – 12th (hospitalization) and 3rd (difficulties & challenges).
4. MERCURY is combust.
5. The 7th house is also being aspected by retrograde SATURN which is also the lord
of 8th house (death).
6. Libra sign (7th house of kaalpursha) is also afflicted due to Gullika’s presence and
also the aspects of two malefic planets – SATURN & MOON.
 Case 4 (TJ)January 9, 1983

For the last several years, the native is suffering

from mental disorders such as schizophrenia.
The native has

1. Moon (significator of mind) afflicted by Saturn

in the Lagna.
2. The Lagna lord VENUS is posited with
MERCURY the lord of 12th house and MARS.

Relief
 Pray to almighty
 Undertake the propitiatory measures of the concerned planets
 Chanting of Maha Mrityunjay Mantra for serious disease.

In the September 2009 issue of our ezine, we studied drekkanas and their relevance
in human ailments. We will now have to understand the utility of Navamsa in
diagnosing diseases. Basically each house stands for some portion of the human
body and its strength and weakness are also assessed on the basis of Navamsa. If a
planet occupies own house in Navamsa it is called swa-navamsa and is good. If it is in
exalted house it is called Uchha Navamsa which is also good and if it occupies
enemies house it is called Shatru Kshetra which is bad. The lord of the rasi who
controls a certain portion of the body should be strong. This lord should be well
placed to give strength to that portion of the body which he controls; else it indicates
there is weakness in the said portion of the body. The Navamsa dispositor of the 6th
house is also a planet which may cause the ailment.

The 6th lord of the horoscope gives clues for the ailment one suffers in life. His
Navamsa dispositor, if brought back into rasi chart to the place it occupies, that rasi is
the indicator of ailment.

As an example, for Kanya ascendant (Virgo Ascendant) the 6th lord Saturn if
occupying Thula (Libra) Navamsa Venus becomes the Navamsa dispositor of the 6th
lord. In case he occupies Mithuna (Gemini) rasi the ailment will be connected with
Mithuna and Dhanus (Sagittarius) because Venus aspects the fourth house. As
Mithuna is an airy sign the ailment may be connected with breathing or lungs. The
fourth house denotes Heart and chest complaints. In addition to the above we have
to see the transit of planets in 64th Navamsa from the Moon Navamsa. In case
malefics pass through this Navamsa health problems are indicated with risk to life..

To sum up we give the following points for the diagnosis and timing of the diseases:

Each of the 12 signs represents one part of the human body

6th house represents the house of disease.
To learn more, one has to study Navamsa, Drekkana and Rogamsa (D-6) and
Dwadasamsa (D-12).
Navamsa is a very important chart.
We have to identify the position of the 6th lord of the rasi chart in Navamsa and note
down the lord of the sign. This planet is responsible for the disease, and timing of the
ailment. He is called as Navamsa dispositor.
The position of Navamsa dispositor in the rasi chart indicates the portion of the body
affected.
In every horoscope, there is a beneficial planet called Yogi and a harmful planet
called Avayogi.
Avayogi is also responsible for creating diseases according to its signification and
position in the zodiac and if the controller is Avayogi of a planet that planet suffers.
Cancer Diseases
In this issue, we present horoscopes of different cancers of the body with their
diagnosis that indicate different planets point to the different cancers.

Note these
For Brain cancer, the Sun, ascendant lord and Mercury are looked into,
For Bone cancer Sun and Mars are important.
For Breast cancer Venus and Moon are considered.
For Blood cancer Moon and Mars are crucial.
Karakas for the brain, breast, bone and blood are to be studied with their strength
and weaknesses.
Vimshottari Dasa is used to pin point the timing of the disease/s.
In all cases of Cancer ailments, the intervention of major planets like Saturn, Rahu,
Ketu, Jupiter are of paramount importance.

In this case ascendant is the head which is the seat of the brain and therefore Mercury
who is ascendant lord becomes important. The 6th lord’s Navamsa dispositor is Saturn
who is with Mercury in the 6th house in rasi chart and this made Mercury as afflicted and
denotes the ailment connected with the Brain. Mercury’s Navamsa dispositor is Jupiter
who is debilitated in rasi and the Sun is in avayogi star.
Bone Cancer

In this case the bone indicator and karaka is the Sun and bone marrow is Mars who
occupies dustanas and in bad nakshatras. And the Navamsa dispositor of the 6th house is
Mercury, who is in the 8th and denotes limb part of the body having bone problem. Mars
is also debilitated in Navamsa. In the case of bone cancer we have to see the Sun. Here
the Sun is in the avayoganakshatra along with the dispositor of the 6th.

Breast Cancer
Generally 4th house from Kalapurusha and also 4th house from the ascendant denotes
the breast portion. Here the karakas are Venus and the Moon. The Navamsa dispositor of
the 6th lord is Venus who occupies the 12th house. He is also said to be karaka in dustana
and is afflicted because he is aspected by Avayogi Saturn. The 6th lord from the fourth is
Venus. From Moon ascendant the fourth lord from the Moon is Moon himself aspected by
powerful malefic Mars. Moreover Venus is also debilitated in Navamsa.

Blood Cancer
In this case blood indicators are the Moon and Mars. The 6th lord Saturn occupies Moon’s
Navamsa and Moon becomes Navamsa dispositor of the 6th house. In rasi he is in the
ascendant aspecting the debilitated ascendant lord. This caused ailment connected with
blood. Here ascendant lord is in the watery sign and ascendant has watery planet Moon
and the Sun who is the 12th lord joins the ascendant lord aspected by the Moon. Lastly
Mars is Avayogi and is with Saturn.(to be continued)
