The MST (Mentor School Teacher) will use this form to formally observe the trainee’s performance and to give feedback based on the
selected teaching competencies.

Commitment to the Profession

Comments:

- Suhaila behaves 100% like a professional! Her commitment to this TP and to her students is
commendable. She is doing very well in this area!

Planning for Learning

Comments:

- The lesson plan is very detailed, of very good quality.

- Suhaila is very well prepared for this lesson.
- She has prepared/created numerous different resources. The varied resources help support the
different learning styles.
- Suhaila has prepared a second worksheet (extra work) in case students finish early. Super!

- At the end of the lesson, she tells students to answer a ‘question’ on an exit slip. “Write your question
on this paper” she says. A few moments later, Suhaila says “also write what you learned today”.
Why did she ask students to write ‘what they learned’ afterwards? as an after-thought?
Would have been more logical to ask students to write about the Learning Outcome first (i.e. what
they learned) and then say …. “and if you have any questions, also write these questions on the
reverse side of the slip”. In other words, writing about the Learning Outcome should have been the
priority for the exit slip (asking a question can be optional).

- Suhaila did not realize that her MST had allocated extra time for this lesson ….. and this was not
planned for. However, Suhaila adjusted very well: she made the Ss line up and tell me – one at a time
– something they had learned today! Great 😊

Managing Learning
Comments:

- Suhaila’s classroom management is very sound

- Her voice carries, and she uses body language to assert her role as the leader of the classroom
- Students are always attentive and always focused and always on task
- Suhaila uses varied management strategies very, very effectively!
- All students always listen to her and respectfully follow her instructions 😊

Implementing Learning
Comments:
- Suhaila passes around grapes and all take/eat a grape. She uses this to open the lesson and to create a link
with real life. Super! 😊 “Which body system breaks down the food?” she asks ….
- Suhaila clearly expresses today’s Learning Outcome
- Suhaila conducts step-by-step questioning in order to introduce the idea of the digestive system
- She uses flash cards (key vocab) and has students read them.
- Students are always kept active!!
- Projected image of the Digestive System – excellent. Students are asked to guess the parts of the digestive
system. Very clearly presented – fantastic.
- But Suhaila mixes up the colors/vocab at one point! (Different laptop is to blame here!)
- Suhaila explains how the digestive system works by simultaneously using:
. a presentation tool
. props used on her body/costume!!!!
. questioning
Excellent job 😊

- Please verify the pronunciation of intestine – now students are mispronouncing it too!!!

-Then, Suhaila asks summative questions about the various parts of the digestive system. She asks Ss to
describe the different functions. Students answer correctly!

- A quiz is presented on the screen.

Please ensure that question can be read (i.e. questions should be written using a darker color)

-The final question (which many Ss cannot answer) is an opening on the next lesson – GREAT!!!

- Suhaila calls up several Ss to say “what they learned today”. Great way to close this lesson segment.

- Worksheet: Ss to place to the correct organs on the chart (digestive system). This exercise is perfectly
aligned to the learning outcome and perfectly suitable for the time remaining.

Assessment
Comments:

- Suhaila questions students throughout the lesson – EXCELLENT!!!! Her questions are aligned,
differentiated and often challenging.
- The Quiz questions give an indication of students’ overall understanding
- At the end of the lesson, Suhaila selects 3 different students to express ‘what they learned today’
- Suhaila verifies the answers written by students on worksheets . She will review them again after the
lesson
- Overall, Suhaila used multiple ways of assessing students throughout the lesson. She now has a very
good indication as to which ‘next steps’ she must take.

Reflection on Practice
Comments:

Suhaila is very capable of reflecting on her lesson: she identified her strengths and the areas she wants to
continue working on.
Action Plan:
Please pay attention to spoken language during lessons. For example:
-“Who can remember me the rules of the classroom?” (should say “Who can remind me of the rules?”)
-“What did you know about the digestive system?” (should say “What do you know about …..”)
- “Are you agree?” (should say “Do you agree?”)

The word ‘intestines’ – always mispronounced ☹

Overall, this was a VERY GOOD LESSON – an indication of Suhaila’s dedication to teaching and to this TP!
I really look forward to observing Suhaila again!
