Sir, I hope that this letter finds you in good health. I am Anas Zohrab student of Pakistan Institute
of Engineering and Applied Sciences Department of electrical engineering. I attended your
lectures of communication skills . I am writing this letter to tell you what i have learned from
your lectures and what i expect to learn furthermore.

In general I learned from you is communication is not only done by words and talking. There
are certain ways to communicate . Each of these have different impacts. Communication skills
are required to understand people and present your ideas to them. Great ideas or innovations
can't be presented to world unless we have proper communication skills.

At the very first day you made us do a group activity . The purpose of the activity was to
"Bringing Ideas into action". A group task was given to find out about a technology that is being
used worldwide but not in Pakistan. Different groups came up with different ideas such as E-
Learning , Electric cars,trains etc.You told us about the baby steps that are required to complete
the whole process such as Capturing the whole idea and organizing it. Think whether the action
is actionable or not. If it is clarified use your team to act on it.This helped me visualize that what i
have to do practically if i start a business in future .

In the second Lecture I learned about investors and entrepreneurs . you divided us into a
group of investors and entrepreneurs . The entrepreneurs have to come up with the ideas and
present their ideas to the investors. Each group have to satisfy the other group regarding the
pitch they made. My group came up with the idea of starting Electric Car industry in Pakistan but
we were unable to get investment. This helped me learn how am i going to work on my ideas in
future. This also helped me realize that good entrepreneurs have good communication skills and
they can present their ideas completely to investors.

Third lecture was about role of body language in communication skills. Body language could
be used to understand what are the people's feeling . Body language also helps us understand if
someone is hiding a feeling through micro expressions etc.I learned about gaze behavior, posture
and stance,purpose of eye contact, facial expressions and some common gestures like shoulder
shrug, finger crossing, puffed chest, eyelid pulling and nose tapping. This was the most
interesting lecture i attended so far. I am now able to understand people's gestures completely.
It also helps me read their faces if they are hiding something.

Body Language is yet another important component of communication skill. Eye contact,
correct posture, Hands movements, facial expressions account very much during business
presentations ,declamations ,declarations ,demonstrations etc. . Organizational communication
helps organization to be successful. Effective interpersonal communication skills such as listening
skills, making eye contact gives boost to your personality. Being an effective communicator helps
to make understand and understood things. It gives self-satisfaction. If you have good
communication skills you are able to communicate a goal in an organization.

We were taught about 'Personal space'. I learned about how sensitive people are about
personal space. Invading someone's personal space is bad while having communication with
them. Invading personal space makes people uncomfortable. Personal space is one and a half
feet in diameter. I learned about shaking hands .Hand shake can also describe your character like
dead fish handshake means weak character, stiff handshake means equality, double hand shake
with upper arm grip transmits feelings. This helped me improve the way i shake hands with
people.

In Fourth Lecture we were taught about writing letters to different kind of people and the
ways to write them . We did a letter writing activity in which we wrote a letter to convince
someone to have a meeting and suggest time and venue. i learned that Writing a letter is not
about just sending some information but it is also about communicating. You pointed out some
errors in the written letters and told us ow to improve them. Later on you told us about minutes
writing quickly by doing a short activity.

We were then taught about active listening that how much it matters when we listen to
someone . Listening to someone with interest and attention can provoke a good attitude in
someone. At the end you told us about Presentations and Good presentations You told us about
Steve Jobs way of presentation.

From this course i expect to learn a lot of things . i hope we will have different activities o
body language and gestures. We will have a lecture about how to dress up according to you
personality for a presentation. I expect that we will be assigned different presentations and our
errors will be pointed out.

The course should also focus on manners of a workplace because we expect to go in practical life
very soon. We need to learn about how to deal with team mates. Plus I believe we will be taught
how to lead teams and projects with success and how to deal efficiently with practical life
problems. We should learn about strong Decision making and how can we improve our decision
making skills.
