The Age of Art

The term “Graphic design” appeared into the art scene around 1922 to describe a form of

art that included graphics. Art, in general, has evolved as a whole over time and it has its

benefits. Graphic Design, in particular, is a field of interest due to the new era, it brings a lot of

new technology and perspectives with art. It allows graphic designers to be creative and

passionate about something through new tools since it is mostly on technology now in days. It

has become something that is helpful in many ways, designing is what represents a specific

subject or product. Designers are up to the task when they are creating a piece of art for

something in specific. Graphic design has changed over time in many ways such as how people

communicate, socialize, and work.

Graphic design provides a new sense to the way humans are able to communicate with

one another. It has changed over time drastically because humans have developed an ability to

use designs as an expressive system. The way humans look at the world is understood by

language and designs. “Designers and marketers for decades have been tuning into ways to do

this, positioning products, services, entertainment and even culture to gain maximum

engagement” (How Does) Graphic design has changed in the way that designers are now

concentrating on creating graphics that are engaging to the human eye. They do this to either

persuade a viewer or convince them into something. As stated by MicroCreatives, “Graphic

design shows a way of communicating which involves styles that efficiently use spaces, images,

and typefaces, aimed at achieving the message pointed at a target audience.” Communication is

key in this concept because graphic designers are now able to express something through more

visual ways. They are doing this by designing visual concepts that represent a particular idea.

Finally, communicating ideas through images and design elements is a newer and more modern

trend that successfully engages the human eye.

Socializing has also had an impact regarding graphic design and its change over time.

How people socialize and interact has been influenced in recent years by graphic design and

what is presented. Socializing is the process of becoming social and interacting with others.

Graphic designers are up to the task to create a visual that represents something verbally. It can

be done through graphics nowadays everybody is on the web and if it is eye engaging, it

becomes something of interest. Socializing occurs when people are able to understand the

message within the design and are able to comprehend and interact with others through the same

image. People are able to interact visually with graphic design through a variety of ways that

designers have created, which includes symbols, images, and text. People have become engaged.

This allows for people to visually view and take in the deeper context of a specific design done

whether with graphics or art elements. Socializing has become something everybody does, and it

has become so easy to do through a smartphone. Everything people run across has evidently been

a part of graphic designing and it is only going to keep advancing.

In an article it was mentioned that, “Graphic designers use professional skills in

typography, visual art, page, computer software, etc., to achieve the purpose of creation

program.” (Huang et al). Graphic design has evidently affected and changed the way the

workforce has been shaped in the last few years. As mentioned by Shane VanOosterhout, an

adjunct professor with a background in graphic design, visual arts, education, horticulture, who

is also a small business owner, he stated that “how would we know where to go and what to do

without design helping us?” Through conversation, VanOosterhout discussed how designing has

evolved in the way people work expressing their artistic skills though designs. Through new

technology and new ways to do art, artists commonly use identification (branding and branding),

publications (magazines, newspapers, and books), print ads, posters, billboards, web graphics

elements, logo and product packaging (Huang et al). A lot of new skills are practiced to really

portray certain designs and features that designers require. Working in this field has really

brought new learnings to designers and it has affected how people work it in a positive way. It

has improved how people work with advertising and designing, which allows it to bring a lot of

different jobs together. An example would be branding, because it portrays what a brand looks

like or what it does, from a logo to the website design. Art classes have also improved since

“over the years as the technology of design developed and became more readily available”

(Delph). With that being said, all the different changes in designing that have been lately

introduced bring a lot of new artistic skills to be learned and it only improves from there for the

art scene.

In conclusion, graphic design has become something that is not acknowledged a whole

lot but we see all over the place on a daily basis. How we communicate, socialize, and work has

evolved with graphic design in recent years. The way we communicate and socialize specific

things that are expressed through art and designs has been updated in recent years. Graphic

design plays a role in this because visual elements are put together to create a concept that may

introduce or communicate a specific subject. Finally, graphic design has become a more complex

field with all the new technology and elements that one is able to mess with. It has evolved, not

just into a more advanced form of art that allows for artists to express themselves but in the way

we do certain things.
