Dear Dr. Bruce,

I have improved my proficiency as a writer during the course of this


semester. Your class had shed some light on my own skill set as an efficient writer.
The portfolio I have made is comprised of my best accomplishments in the class
parallel to the student learning outcomes (SLO’s) you have provided in the
beginning of the course.
The paper I chose to revise is my keyword definition of thermodynamics
because I believe this is my best document and I wanted to refine it furthermore.
This document satisfies four out of the six SLO’s, Rhetorical focus, ethical research,
organization and focus, and academic language and design.
I demonstrated my understanding of organization and focus and academic
language and design throughout the document. I organized my paper in such a way
that is easy to navigate and understand as well as adding the appropriate
illustrations with titles and citations. I made sure that the sources I chose were best
suited to support the facts and the citation style I employed best suited the scientific
nature of the paper, which shows my knowledge of the ethical research SLO. The
target audiences for my paper are scientists and the general public, the side-bar
section provides definitions for obscure scientific terms so that anyone could read
the sections and still be able to follow along without knowing deep scientific
concepts which fulfills the ethical research portion of the SLO’s
This cover letter is written in such a fashion that portrays my progress and
improvement as a writer, it is my intent to inform and guide the reader through the
submitted documents and the SLO’s that are associated with each one. This letter
and my revised documents act as supporting evidence of my improved proficiency
of the given SLO’s thus satisfying the persuasive argument SLO’s.
As for the collaboration SLO, I have chosen the group charter from the
annotated bibliography project. I wrote this document along with three other group
members. This demonstrates my ability to plan and write constructively with my
peers.
