How to Setup the CM Notify Sync Feature

Overview
When an administrative task is performed from System Manager, the local database is immediately
updated. If you execute the action through Avaya Site Administration, it is not immediately reflected in
System Manager. This scenario creates an out-of-sync condition between the Communication Manager
and System Manager.

The CM Notify Sync feature provides near-real time notifications from Communication Manager to
System Manager whenever you execute certain tasks against a Communication Manager object from a
system other than System Manager.

After Communication Manager sends notifications to System Manager, System Manager discovers the
complete details of the task you preformed. The transmission of notifications in the form of event
messages from Communication Manager to System Manager is based on the Communication Manager’s
existing rsyslog capability, using a secure TLS connection.

The existing daily default synchronization and any other scheduled synchronization operations are
unaffected by the CM notify sync feature.

Enabling the CM notify sync feature

You can enable and disable the CM notify sync feature on a per Communication Manager basis.

1. In SMGR, in Inventory/Manage Elements, select the CM and click Edit


2. Modify the CM IP to include the A and B server individually (rather than the shared IP), and
uncheck the Enable Notifications box. Click Submit.

3. In SMGR, navigate to Services/Security/Certificates/Authority


4. If the CRL is expired, click Create CRL. If not, go to Step 5
5. Click Download Pem File and save to your pc.
6. Rename the file for easy reference, such as CM1.pem.

7. In CM web UI, navigate to Server (Maintenance)/Miscellaneous/Download Files, and select the
Pem file you saved. Click Download.
8. In CM, navigate to Security/Trusted Certificates and click Add
9. Enter the filename of the Pem file and click Open
10. In the middle box, type in the Pem file name
11. Check the boxes for Communication Manager and Remote Logging, click Add.

12. Back in SMGR, Inventory/Manage Elements, select the CM and click Edit
13. Check the Enable Notifications box and click Submit.

***Note: Avaya must perform the following step due to root access needed***
14. On each CM in the pair, confirm that the /etc/hosts file includes A server IP, B server IP, and
Active server IP
tech@corp-cmb> more /etc/hosts
10.0.0.25 corp-cma
10.0.0.26 corp-cmb
10.0.0.27 corp-cmact

The command line below can be used to verify the connection. CM root sudo access is needed. The
output should be as follows.
tech@corp-cmb> sudo cmSyslogConfig -iptcmquery
IPTCM=enable
TLS CA File: /etc/opt/ecs/certs/rsyslog/CA/all-ca.crt
IPTCM1=10.0.1.27 (This should be SMGR IP)
IPTCM1_Protocol=TLS
IPTCM1_Port=9000

**If IPTCM=Disabled, the configuration is not correct
