Significant Weather Features

♦ Heat Wave conditions are very likely to prevail over some parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh & Telangana during next 24
hours and in isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal during next 48 hours.
♦ Due to the current Western Disturbance and ongoing moisture incursion from Arabian Sea, rainfall/thunderstorm activity
very likely over many parts of northwest India from today. Rainfall/thunderstorm activity also likely to increase over
Northeast & peninsular India from today. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya
during next 4 days.

Main Weather Observations


♦ Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at many places over Jammu &
Kashmir; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya ; at isolated places over Punjab
and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
♦ Rainfall recorded at 1730 hours IST of yesterday (1 cm or more) are: Itanagar-2 and North Lakhimpur-1.
♦ Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today) at isolated places over Jammu &
Kashmir, East Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, West Rajasthan and North Interior Karnataka .
♦ Yesterday, Heat wave conditions were observed at isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh,
Odisha, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Gangetic West Bengal.
♦ Maximum temperature departures as on 10-05-2019: Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to
5.0°C) at most places over Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; at many places over Gangetic
West Bengal and Rayalaseema; at a few places over Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Coastal Andhra Pradesh; at isolated places over
Punjab, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Tamil Nadu & Puducherry; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places
over Telangana and South Interior Karnataka; at many places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar
Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu & Puducherry; at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Coastal & North Interior
Karnataka and Kerala; at isolated places over Konkan & Goa. They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at
many places over Arunachal Pradesh; at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many
places over Gujarat Region; at a few places over Saurashtra & Kutch and Rajasthan; at isolated places over West Madhya
Pradesh and Madhya Maharashtra and near normal over rest of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of
46.2°C recorded at Banda (East Uttar Pradesh).
♦ Minimum temperature departures as on 10-05-2019: Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to
5.0°C) at most places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi; at many places over Punjab; at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur,
Mizoram & Telangana; at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan; above normal (1.6°C to
3.0°C) at most places over West Bengal & Sikkim; at many places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh; at a few places over Odisha,
Andaman & Nicobar, Bihar, Jharkhand and Tamilnadu & Puducherry; at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya, Madhya
Pradesh, Gujarat state and Marathwada. They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at isolated places over South Interior
Karnataka, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa and near normal over rest parts of the country.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)
♦ The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & neighbourhood between 3.1
& 5.8 km above mean sea level persists. The associated trough aloft in mid & upper-tropospheric
westerlies with its axis at 7.6 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 70°E to the north of Lat.
20°N also persists.
♦ The upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood between 2.1 and 3.1
km above mean sea level persists.
♦ The trough at 0.9 km above mean sea level from north interior Odisha to Comorin area across south
Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rayalaseema and interior Tamil Nadu persists.
♦ The north-south trough at 1.5 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 88°E to the north of Lat.
24°N persists.
♦ The cyclonic circulation over east Assam & adjoining Nagaland at 1.5 km above mean sea level
persists.
♦ The cyclonic circulation over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh & neighbourhood at 1.5 km above
mean sea level persists.
