2. SUMMARY
A. Reason
To provide instructions to improve time on wing for LEAP-1A engines with high pressure turbine (HPT) stage 1
shroud coating loss, identified by a costumer notification report (CNR) and verified by a borescope inspection
(BSI), and low exhaust gas temperature (EGT) hot day takeoff margin for a defined population of LEAP-1A
engines (see paragraph 3.A., Applicability).
3. PLANNING INFORMATION
A. Applicability
LEAP-1A23, -1A24, -1A24E1, -1A26, -1A26E1, -1A30, -1A32
Applicability is limited to LEAP-1A engine models G02, G03, and G04 operating with full authority digital engine
control (FADEC) software (EEC software) P/N 2590M00P07 (version L1A0510, commonly referred to as
FCS5.0) that have confirmed HPT stage 1 shroud coating loss identified by a CNR and verified by a BSI.
B. Concurrent requirements
Do LEAP-1A S/B 73-0021 before you do this Service Bulletin. Refer to SB: 73-0021
C. Reason
(1) Objective:
To provide instructions to improve time on wing for LEAP-1A engines with HPT stage 1 shroud coating loss,
identified by a CNR and verified by a BSI, and low EGT hot day takeoff margin for a defined population of
LEAP-1A engines (see paragraph 3.A., Applicability).
(2) Condition:
Applicable to LEAP-1A engines with the booster 1 configuration that operate with a low EGT hot day takeoff
margin and have a confirmed HPT stage 1 shroud coating loss identified by a CNR and verified by a BSI.
(3) Cause:
An accelerated EGT hot day takeoff margin loss has been observed on LEAP-1A engines operating with
HPT stage 1 shroud coating loss.
(4) Improvement:
Reprogramming of the rating plug [data entry plug (DEP)] hardware configuration pins will result in the following
additional EGT hot day takeoff margins (as compared to FCS5.0 software without the DEP update).
LEAP-1A23 25
LEAP-1A24 25
LEAP-1A24E1 15
LEAP-1A26 25
LEAP-1A26E1 9
LEAP-1A30 25
LEAP-1A32 4
(5) Substantiation:
Substantiation is by test.
D. Description
This Service Bulletin provides CFM instructions to improve time on wing for LEAP-1A engines operating with
EEC software P/N 2590M00P07 (FCS5.0) that have confirmed HPT stage 1 shroud coating loss, identified by
a CNR and verified by a BSI, by updating the hardware configuration pins on the DEP to activate additional
EGT hot day takeoff margins.
E. Compliance
Category 7
CFM recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's convenience.
Impact C
This recommendation is to address a condition that may result in a Non-Event operational disruption,
Unscheduled Engine Removals (UER), Out-Station-Removals or Aircraft on the Ground (AOG).
F. Approval
The technical content of this Service Bulletin is approved by the FAA and under the Authority of DOA No.
EASA.21J.086.
G. Manpower
After you get access to the DEP, you will need approximately 1 man-hour for each engine.
