WORK EXPERIENCE AND VOLUNTEERING

THE NEW YORK TIMES August 2018

Management Internship
 Worked as a management intern at one of the world’s biggest news outlets The New York
Times wherein my primary responsibilities included video editing as well as corporate
management and development. I had the job of producing a short film about a collaborative
project between The New York Times and Plaza Premium, an international airport lounge
company with outlets in 44 countries. The project involved supporting and sponsoring 10
different universities around Asia, many of which were located in underprivileged locations.
Besides honing my video editing skills.
 Tasked with helping to expand one of New York Times’ newer magazines in Hong Kong and
China. As New York Times is looking to move towards a greater market share in Asia, I
learned to generate leads in various industries which required media mileage and contacted
potential advertisers to promote the magazine.

The Peninsula Hong Kong Summer-Easter 2018

 Hospitality Trainee worked as a hospitality trainee at The Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong
which is the luxury flagship property of the hotel chain and recognised as an international
icon of hospitality. Worked as a doorman which forms the first impression of every guest.
Engaged with guests by assisting with directions on how to get around the city with its
multiple transportation systems and provided information on the nearby landmarks and tourist
attractions.
Robotics Mentor-Island School Robotics Club Aug. 31, 2017 to June 5, 2018

 Instructed my team of two students to build VEX robots using skills that I had learned from
Design Technology. Prior to the mentorship role, I learned how to use VEX IQ tools to model
real world robotic control systems and to design, test and evaluate electronic software,
hardware and mechanisms to solve exciting design challenges. Learned to program an
autonomous space rover, an autonomous sumo-bot and a remote controlled VEX IQ
Challenge robot.
 Coached my team to do some base thinking and generate ideas for the mechanics of the robot
in order to learn on how to build the robot. One of the challenges was to design for the new
specification game that VEX just designed, in order to join the qualifier of the VEX World
Championship for HK schools. It is an annual event hosted by the Asian Robotics League
and CINTEC of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
 Worked with my team to prepare for the VEX IQ Clawbot Start - Induction VEX IQ
Ringmaster Challenge Scrimmage. Directed their ideas by adding more gears and different
components to their robot and conducted performance tests. Modifying the gears allowed my
team to have a greater advantage for the competition. Our team won 2nd Place in the VEX IQ
Clawbot Start-Induction VEX IQ Ringmaster Challenge Scrimmage in Island School. Then,
we went on to win the Third Place in the VEX IQ World Championship for HK Schools.

ANAIA FASHION EVENT-Island School

PRODUCTION MANAGER AND DIRECTOR January to September 15, 2018
 Worked as the Production Manager and Director for ANAIA which is Island School’s annual
student-led charity fashion show with all proceeds going to Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre,
which aims to equip people with effective ways to face and cope with cancer diagnosis,
treatments and the psychological impact of cancer. Raised and donated HK$60,000 (Euro
6,000). Spearheaded the production and staging logistics and directed the show’s theatrical
elements from the lighting, stage design to coordinating the AV components. Assisted in the
purchasing and sourcing of the required equipment and props.
 Orchestrated the production and direction of the promotional video which was sponsored by
Levis. Organised the execution of the storyboard by coordinating the shot list for the
cameraman, selected model clothing, arranged equipment for the location shoots with the
cinematographer and photographer. I also did still photography and worked with the camera
by taking and directing videos for the Facebook page of ANAIA to promote the fashion show.
Crossroads Foundation-Volunteer November 2018
 Crossroads Foundation is a Hong Kong based, non-profit organisation serving global needs to
alleviate suffering. Volunteered to help update and clean the old computers that were donated.
Worked on replacing the circuit boards, updating the software, changed the wire set-up and
assisted in delivering the revamped computers to the needy people of Hong Kong.

Cambodia Service Trip in Khompein November 2017

 Worked in the remote villages just outside the city, where the impact of tourism has not had a
great effect on the economy and lives of the inhabitants. In the villages we worked closely
with a NGO called Husk, and the central focus of much of the service was based around the
school and a residential homes that we helped to build. My specific responsibility was to help
build the flooring of the home. I also had the opportunity to help teach English lessons in the
school, and continue much needed building projects in the area.
