Saint Research Project – Assessment Rubric

Over 4 full lessons, spread from week 3-5 students will be doing a Research Project on one Catholic
Saint. For those taking part in the Sacrament of Confirmation they are to research the Saint whose
name they will be taking during the Sacrament to develop deeper understanding of the qualities
they aspire to grow towards. For those not receiving the Sacrament, they are to research a Saint
whose qualities they admire and aspire to be more like in their life.

Key Understanding / Overarching Learning Point being Assessed: A1

“God calls all people to holiness to reflect His goodness by living lives filled with acts of love for
God and others.”

The Rubric is used as a formal assessment that breaks down the main overarching learning point
(A1) being assessed into smaller elements to identify specific knowledge, understanding and
application of these that the students demonstrates. It gives a clear breakdown of the students
learning and reflection of the learning point of God calling all people to reflect his goodness through
living lives filled with acts of love for God and others. Within this overarching idea students are to
demonstrate their understanding of how a Saint is a person who reflects God through efforts to do
what is good in their lives. The rubric aligns with the selection criteria outlined on the Project
Overview which students are provided with (Appendix L9). They are assessed on the ability to apply
their knowledge to their own lives and reflect intrinsically on their own qualities and aspirations
towards holiness. The rubric assesses elements of knowledge and understanding, application of
understanding, personal reflection and prayer. All of these elements are vital in students developing
a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit and how through it’s guidance we can live in reflection of
God.
