Special Populations Philosophy

Year after year children have always been separated depending on their economic statues,

on their ability to learn quickly, or if they have any disabilities. Regardless of what it is, the

United States has tried to get rid all the stereotypes and have overcome many problems they have

encountered in the past.

Often, children who are gifted and talented are often placed with others who are the same

way. They do not have the students in regular classes with students who are not the same way. I

believe that students should not be separated. Gifted students could actually help others because

of the advantage they have. Teachers should group the students when doing activities with other

students and not just the gifted ones in one group.

When it comes to the special education, I have always thought that children with special

needs should be placed in regular classes. I have gotten to meet many kids that have special

needs but are so smart and capable of doing the same things any regular kids. They should be be

able to interact with other children in regular classes. By not letting them, teachers are not letting

them learn to their fullest potential. It just isolates them from other children.

Growing up as an English Language learner, it was always hard to actually understand

the language because of how hard and complicated English is. ESL is a great program that helps

kids that do not understand the language which also helps them if they need something read to

them. The class pulls them out of class to teach and help them read. I believe they should also

incorporate groups that split the non-English children and the English children in groups so they

can help each other.

When it comes to a child’s economic statues, regardless of what it is they should not be

treated any different. Homeless children are always the main ones that have to suffer and go

through tough times. I believe there should be different programs for homeless children that help

them with school materials, clothes, and even shelters. Children that experience homelessness do

not like to speak up because they often feel embarrassed and feel like other children will bully

them. Not only does that occurs but homeless children will fall behind in school and can fall

behind in a grade due to the lack of support and stability.

Overall students should not be stereotyped or looked at any different. It does not matter

what their background is. Students should be able to learn regardless of their economic status or

ability.
