Queen Elizabeth I ruled England from 1558 to 1603.

Her kingdom, also known as

Elizabethan Era, is considered one of the most beautiful and prosperous from the
artistic, economic, political and religious point of view, in all English History. This is
the reason why Elizabeth I was so loved by the people.

For example, even if at that time there was a conflict between Catholics and
Protestants, she could manage this problem skilfully and moderately as opposed to
her half-sister that took the nickname of “Bloody Mary” for her violent persecution
of Protestants. Elizabeth supported the Anglican Church but gave freedom to
Catholics to profess their religion.

Now, I will talk about two episodes that characterized her reign:

The first is about Mary Stuart, Queen of the Scots. Mary Stuart tried to take
Elizabeth’s reign after that she had to run away from Scotland because accused of
killing her second husband. But Elizabeth didn’t get overwhelmed and made Mary
arrested and executed in 1587.

The second is about Philip II, king of Spain. He wanted to marry Elizabeth and
become king of England but, since she refused him, he decided to take England by
force. He attacked England with a fleet of 130 ships, known as Spanish Armada, but
Elizabeth defeated him in 1588 demonstrating the superiority of England.

Elizabeth I is also known as the Virgin Queen because she died unmarried and with
no children to leave her kingdom. For this reason, Elizabeth had to name James, the
son of Mary Stuart, the new King of England.

La regina Elisabetta I governò l'Inghilterra dal 1558 al 1603. Il suo regno, noto anche
come epoca elisabettiana, è considerato uno dei più belli e prosperi dal punto di

motivo per cui Elisabetta I era così amata dalla gente.

Ora parlerò di due episodi che hanno caratterizzato il suo regno:

Il primo riguarda Mary Stuart, la regina degli scozzesi. Mary Stuart cercò di prendere
il regno di Elisabetta dopo che dovette scappare dalla Scozia perché accusata di aver
ucciso il suo secondo marito. Ma Elisabetta non si fece sopraffare e fece arrestare e
giustiziare Mary nel 1587.

Il secondo parla di Filippo II, re di Spagna. Lui voleva sposare Elisabetta e diventare
re d'Inghilterra ma, dal momento che lei lo rifiutò, decise di prendere l'Inghilterra
con la forza. Attaccò l'Inghilterra con una flotta di 130 navi, conosciuta come Armata
