Introduction:
Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Year 6 Confirmation
information evening. My name is Chelsea Warfield and tonight I will be shedding
some light on the content that will be covered in our classroom over the next 5
weeks. We will discuss the rich activities that will be conducted to help your child
develop as in individual and as a contributing member of the Catholic faith. We will
also address how your child will be assessed using the plan, teach & assess model
to ensure that different learning styles are catered for and that your child is receiving
the highest quality of Religious Education possible.

Slide 1:
Let us commence the evening with a prayer. Please join me in collectively saying the
prayer on the screen. In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
Loving God,
You are the giver of all we possess,
the source of all of our blessings.
We thank and praise you.
Thank you for the gift of our children.
Help us to set boundaries for them,
and yet encourage them to explore.
Give us the strength and courage to treat
each day as a fresh start.
May our children come to know you, the one true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
May your Holy Spirit help them to grow
in faith, hope, and love,
so they may know peace, truth, and goodness.
May their ears hear your voice.
May their eyes see your presence in all things.
May their lips proclaim your word.
May their hearts be your dwelling place.
May their hands do works of charity.
May their feet walk in the way of Jesus Christ,
your Son and our Lord.
Amen.

Slide 2:
I would like to share a clip that explains Confirmation and its importance. A perfect
representation of the understandings students need to attain about Confirmation, the
process and the contributing factors that make this sacrament so special.

Slide 3:
Throughout this unit of work, we are striving to strengthen and deepen our faith with
God. We achieve this by reaffirming the promises that were made during Baptism at
the Confirmation ceremony. Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of
Christian initiation. If we reflect on the process of Baptism, we recall the laying of the
hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil. This procedure is also conducted when an
individual is confirmed to symbolise that they are being confirmed with the fullness of
the Holy Spirit. We are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of
Jesus, and strengthened to follow Jesus more closely.

Slide 4:
Students will be exposed to a wide range of learning opportunities that will develop
their overall understanding of Confirmation and how to conduct themselves in real
life context. Throughout this unit of work, we are targeting 3 main areas:
A: Wondering at the creator of the human spirit
B: The promise of Christian salvation
C: Christian Response
The unit has been planned to address the criteria from these three stages and
integrates into multiple areas of the Australian Curriculum. Examples of activities
consist of:
- Exploring children’s literature to develop a coherent understanding of
Pentecost and the Beatitudes.
- Creating a prayer
- Using drama (roleplays) to explore examples of how we can live life like Jesus
and fulfil our promises made at Confirmation
- Godly Plays representational of Catholic Scripture
Students understanding will continuously be monitored through the teaching phase.
It is critical that students attain factual information about the topic and do not become
accustom to any misconceptions. Assessment will be conducted in various different
forms such as rubrics, checklists, student self-assessment, quizzes. Throughout
each teaching week diagnostic, formative and summative assessment will be
conducted to check for understand and plan for future lessons.

Slide 5:
I would like to conclude the night by posing this question to you. “How will you
continue to support your child in strengthening their faith with Christ?”. How I would
support students within the home:
- Encourage continuous reflection particularly in times where students have to
draw upon inner strength
- Allow students to make decisions, rather than telling students what will be
done
- Create conversation about Saints in preparation for selecting a Confirmation
name
- Share memories, photos/videos of your own experiences of Confirmation
- Be active members of the Church, volunteer for roles
- Collective prayer
It is important to remember that students are developing as individuals
independently, however we can still guide and support them on their vocation by role
modelling qualities that reflect Jesus and his Church. Please support students by
fostering the classroom learning into your home so that we can help prepare
students for their Confirmation. Thank you all for coming.
