Eucharist Celebration

GATHER
Welcome:
Good evening and welcome to this special celebration, the Confirmation of _______________. We
would like to thank in advance those of you here before us today in coming to share and celebrate
the completion of ___________ Baptism into the Catholic Church.

We are here to witness the fulfillment of the Holy Spirit, sealed by the Holy Chrism and we come
together to unite as a community to support _______________’s future vocation in the love and
light of Christ.

We are in the presence of our trusted Priests and Bishops and staff of the college to celebrate this
joyous occasion.

May you please stand and join in the opening hymn – ‘Gather your people’.

Introductory Rites

Entrance Hymn:
Gather your people, O Lord.
Gather your people, O Lord.
One bread, one body, one spirit of love.
Gather your people, O Lord.

Verse 1
Draw us forth to the table of life:
brothers and sisters,
each of us called to walk in your light.

Verse 2
We are parts of the body of Christ,
needing each other,
each of the gifts the Spirit provides.

Verse 3
No more harm on the mountain of God;
swords into plowshares.
Free us, O Lord, from hardness of heart.

Verse 4
Wash us, Lord, in the waters of life;
waters of mercy,
waters of hope that flow from your side.

Reading/s

First Reading

A reading from the prophet Isaiah

(61:1-3)
(Pause)
The spirit of the Lord has been given to me,
for the Lord has anointed me.
He has sent me to bring good news to the poor,
to bind up hearts that are broken;
to proclaim liberty to captives,
freedom to those in prison;
to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord,
a day of vengeance for our God,
to comfort all those who mourn
and to give them
for ashes – a garland
for a mourning robe – the oil of gladness,
for despondency, praise.
Pause
The Word of the Lord

All: Thanks be to God

Second Reading:

(1 Cor 13: 2-3)

A Reading from the Letter of St Paul to the Community in Corinth

If I give all I possess to the poor, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

General Intercessions/ Prayer of the faithful 5 or 6
Let us come to our God in prayer, inspired by the Holy Spirit who has sealed these young adults forever
with his divine gift.
We pray for our Pope Francis, Bishop Timothy Costello and all church leaders. May they continue to be
strengthened by the Holy Spirit and have the courage to spread the Good News.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord hear our prayer.
We pray for our world. May all people allow the gifts of the Holy Spirit into their hearts and minds so
God's love will grow and peace will reign.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord hear our prayer.
We pray for our Parish community. Help us to continue to become the people you intended us to
be by being understanding, strong and humble towards other human beings.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord hear our prayer.
We pray for all who have been confirmed by the gift of the Spirit, that the Spirit of right judgement and
courage may strengthen them in the years ahead.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord Hear our Prayer
We pray for our parents, sponsors, and friends. Grant that their love and example will continue to guide
and inspire us as we continue our faith journey.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord hear our prayer.

Recessional Hymn:
‘Shine Jesus Shine’ – Graham Kendrick
Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me

Shine, Jesus, shine

Fill this land with the Father's glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light

Lord, I come to your awesome presence

From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me

As we gaze on your kingly brightness

So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me
