Haste makes Waste

In almost every situation when some idea hits our mind, without wasting
a second we wish to apply it. And most of the times we do it. ‘Haste
makes waste’ is an old saying but accepted by almost everyone. One
definition of decision is our ability to make choices quickly and
confidently, but not always we make perfect decisions is also true. It is
said, ‘Haste is the characteristic of devil’ and we all know the position
of devil. A simple example can show how haste can change your life. A
student with the fear of time shortage completed all the questions in
time and got many of them wrong and hence failed. Only if he had
solved them with carefulness, even if he attempted few questions, he
could have passed.

For sure, many examples show, haste is a direct road to error. Haste
is just a synonym of waste. It’s a natural thing, every time someone
makes a mistake he wishes he had taken more time to think or apply
for process. Instead of regretting, why not get rid of it? Acting quickly or
instinctively is, no matter for what reasons, never a good response to
crisis.
Big situation or small, urgent or relaxed, every situation demands us to
be careful and thoughtful. Same assignment was given to two students.
One utilizes the available time efficiently and formulates a strategy to
solve it, whereas the other does it in streak to show how quick he is.
Familiar with the situation, we can evaluate the result. If only the latter
had tackled the assignment with little concentration and took time to
complete it, his result would have been opposite. This example shows
that haste is the enemy of perfection.

These are some hypothetical examples, also if we consider the practical

life we can see how so many states have been ruined by hasting
decisions made by people. The decisions taken in haste by world
powers at Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan have aggravated the situation
from bad to worst. It is haste, paucity of well devised strategy, lack of
intelligence and exit strategy which brought destruction, anarchy,
chaos, political turmoil and rise of monstrous terrorist organization like
ISIS. Despite the use of high tech war machinery and well trained
military and intelligence agencies, world has seen an uplift in terrorism
and extremism. Former Prime Minister of Britain, Mr. Tony
Blair, acknowledged the ill effects of haste by tendering an apology to
the world for abysmal consequences of their hasty decisions. In an
interview to the CNN host Fareed Zakria he said,

“I apologize for the fact that the intelligence we received was wrong. I
also apologize for some of the mistakes in planning and, certainly, our
mistake in our understanding of what would happen once you removed
the regime.”

We are living in a strenuous world or say a strenuous life where every

person is in haste. Each person is in race with the other and therefore
we have all created a misconception in our minds that we cannot
succeed if we do not act in haste and be the first in every endeavor.
Little they know that time is what that matters the most, whoever uses
it wisely is sagacious in reality. A friend of mine was called for an
interview, when she went there she sat down calmly and answered all
the questions with tranquility. She didn’t make haste to impress them
because she knew manners require time not haste. She knew the
answers she will give in haste were useless.

― Lewis Carroll once said,

“The hurrier I go, the behinder I get.”

To be always in hurry has become our routine. We are always in haste

to do our jobs and impress others but forget that people not remember
how fast we did work but how well. Haste shows a person’s nature and
a person in haste can also be described as Impatient. And we all know
what kind of impact an impatient person make on others. Impatient
people always make errors.

Hasting plays a unforgiving role. For instance, when you rush to get
things done early, you unknowingly make so many mistakes that costs
too much. After that you realize you should have taken time. Similarly
when you say things in haste to someone without noticing, you ruin so
many relations, as it is said, ‘A bad wound can heal but bad words
can never’. Hence, why say unjust words which we actually don’t mean
but utter in haste. Besides this all, there are many examples that show
how decisions made in haste, no matter made with good intention or
bad, failed.

William Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet once said, “Wisely and

slow; they stumble that runs fast’’. This also demonstrates that
whether it is some decision made or some work done; in haste both
falls.

Let’s consider ourselves, when we act too quickly we end up getting

nothing but losing something. Be it work or home chores, everywhere
haste provides with no good result. You are in a hurry; you cook in
hastiness and imbalance all the ingredients. What do you get? Nothing,
in fact you doubled your work. Similarly in hurriedness, you are given
some calculation from your boss to do. In your quickness you did it
totally wrong. Along with exasperation of your boss you got to do it
again. By doing it hastily, you wanted to save your time but look what
you got.

We are all well aware of the story ‘Slow and steady wins the race’;
the story illustrates that perseverance is always greater than speed.

However this all does not mean to procrastinate and keep delaying your
time. You must begin on time but first be prepared and be sure!

Benefits of Social Media

If it were not for the social media the world would not have turned into
a global village. Social media has contracted the distances and
information, nowadays, spread like a wildfire. A businessman, a
scientist, a student or for anyone, it is strenuous to imagine his life
without social media. Past were the days when a person had to spend
days and nights to solve a problem. Today, you just need to have your
smartphone by your side as you can get any information from the
internet and social media. The person who doesn’t have access to
television at places like offices, hostels, classrooms, and vehicles can
all learn about breaking news through social media. Today a few people
read the newspapers as the social networking websites have become
a source of news to them. It takes a considerable amount of time for the
newspaper or magazines to get printed and to convey you the
information about something that happened the previous day but the
social media websites will take less than a minute to keep you abreast
of the latest happenings throughout the globe.

There are endless benefits of social media. Sometimes it actually

compels you to wonder how monotonous would be your life without it.

Social Media- A place to learn

Social networking sites are actually best thing happened to students.
These sites have helped so many students to do more and become
better. Be it Facebook or Twitter, both sites contain umpteen
educational pages. Someone who could not afford to join classes, he
could easily go to YouTube and take free online lessons. For instance,
English, an international and effective language, demands that every
person must have a command over it. From a beginner to a proficient
student, there are lessons available for every individual on Internet.
Besides learning different languages, for individuals who are going to
take tough exams like SAT, GRE or IELTS, there are different kind of
practice tests available that are really helpful. Social media sites have
provided the teachers and the students with a class outside a classroom
where they can interact at any time. I assume I can write for days about
how much Social media has helped students in expanding their
knowledge.

Social Media- An Ultimate Equalizer in the Society

Gone are the days when the platform of media was available only to a
bunch of politicians, movie stars, pop and sports sensations, civil right
activists, and religious scholars. Today, social media empowers people
to share their views and contribute to popular
opinion. #Black_lives_matter, #Refugee_Crisis, #Gun_Control_Laws,
#Pray_For_Paris, #Panama_Papers and #Gender_Equality are some
of the causes that gained impetus through social media platforms and
augmented into a force that led the mighty rulers to subjugate to the
popular opinion. Many young artists, musicians, and actors reached the
apex of popularity through their social media accounts. There is no cost
associated with the social media accounts which make it ultimate
equalizer as it eradicates the socio-economic barriers which otherwise
would have caused a monopoly of the rich and popular people on
popular opinion. All you need is a willingness to engage with social
media and you can reach thousand of like-minded people which
give your voice value equal to the that of the celebrities.

Social Media- A vibrant source of communication

Social media has helped people a lot in communicating with each other.
Different people from different cultures are interacting today and
exchanging their ideas. In this way, social media is ending widespread
stereotypes engendered by gender, caste, color or religion. Even if
relatives or friends don’t stay much in touch through social media, they
still can get an idea what their cherished ones are up to or how they are
doing. For example, Facebook has recently launched Safety Check, a
very helpful tool used by people during disasters. People can mark
themselves safe during any calamity and it will automatically notify their
friends of their safety.

Social Media- A Step towards Women Empowerment

It has been researched that most social sites are dominated by women.
It seems like women who, due to some reasons, can’t go out and do
businesses have found a way to reach out huge markets. Social
networking sites are fantastic tools for business and the pages like tasty
and nifty have proved it. Women are advertising their brands online,
plethora amount of women have opened cooking and cleaning pages
and online shops of various items. On the other hand, it has become
easy for people to order anything by sitting on their comfortable couch.

Social Media- Provides Employment Opportunities

After students, social media has emerged as a very effectual thing for
a person in search of employments. In the past, people use to buy
newspaper or magazine to look for jobs but today, the internet is the
greatest source of advertisement and spreading information regarding
anything. You just have to like the job publishing pages and they will
provide you with all the data you need; kind of job, contact number,
address and full data of the company.

Social Media- An Instrument of Awareness

The world is in a state of havoc. As we are seeing how Syrians and
Palestinians are forced to leave their lands and living hell of a life. We
are becoming aware of their everyday situation through these social
sites hence many people are doing what they can do for them through
the internet. People are collecting funds, giving charities, signing
petitions and donating to ameliorate their sufferings. Moreover, Social
media sites have urged people to make social changes and do social
good.

Social Media- Contracts Distances

Last but not the least, we all knows that how social networking sites
have removed long distances and helped people in interacting from far
places. You can interact face to face with your long lost childhood
friends or relatives living abroad. And through these same networking
sites, people got to know about the people from far places living in
cursed situations and are taking steps to help them. People have known
more about the importance of public health and safety through social
media and have gained much information about how they can make
their societies safe and sound.

Social media is an enhanced tool which has significantly improved

connectivity and social awareness. Having said that, it is also evident
that social media is not without faults. Scientific studies have shown that
social media has resulted in reduced concentration among the
students, high levels of discontent with one’s life and spread of
misinformation. But, at the same time, it is also a fact that technology
itself is neutral, it doesn’t force one to act in specific ways. It is up to
the users how they interact with technology and get the maximum
benefits out of it. It is the need of the day that we create a general
awareness about how to use technology for the betterment of the
society and once we learn this, it is highly plausible that social media
will enumerate its benefits in the society.
