5 Year Plan

The next five years is a strange thing for me to think about. I do not know where I want

to be for sure. I know what I like and what I wish my future will look like and the general idea of

how I want my life to pan out. My first priority for the future is to be happy and growing. When I

am old and at the end of my life, I want to be able to say I lived freely and positively, always

growing from my past and my mistakes. I know that I want to be involved with agriculture and

animal science. Agriculture has been apart of my life since I could remember. I want my future

built on agriculture and animals. I have always had a love and appreciation for agriculture, but

specifically animals.

After high school, I am going to Merced Junior College to minor in animal science. I

choose MJC because of convenience, and my family. I do not want to move away as soon as I

graduate high school. I still want to be around family, friends, and the places and things that are

familiar to me. It is also free my first year and their agriculture department is adequate for my

desires. After two years at the Junior College, I want to transfer to Oklahoma State CASNR or

Cal Poly Pomona to study for a degree in Agriculture Education. Oklahoma State is my first

choice because of the economy in Oklahoma, it’s cheap and the college has one of the best

agriculture departments in the United States. After college, I hope to be an agriculture teacher,

helping students discover their passion for agriculture and to help others see the reality and

importance of agriculture. I have not yet decided where I want to be a teacher. Those aspects of

my life, I think I should decide based on current situations in my life.

Regarding to my personal life, I hope I am close with my family, and my friends. I

currently am in a relationship. This relationship makes dirt track racing a big part of my current
life. I hope that in five years I am still involved in dirt racing, regardless of my relationship

status. However, I do see myself staying in my current relationship in five years. I have always

been the girl dreaming of a happy life, with a job, a ‘future’ husband, and a social life that makes

sure within all the stress and adulting, I will be able to find the fun and positivity of life. I want

to be involved in agriculture as much as possible, even in my personal life. I have always wanted

to own or at least participate in an A.I. business that helps young FFA and 4-H members with

their projects. I want to help FFA an 4-H members by providing cheaper market animals to give

more students the opportunity to show and go through the experience of showing at a

local/county fair.

Throughout the next five years, I do plan on working to support myself and even my

family if necessary. I have not put much thought into what I would do regarding a job because

my first priority is my education. However, I do think that I will work in the food industry as a

waitress or a bartender, of course when I am at the legal age to do so. I am involved in culinary

arts currently so the industry isn’t foreign to me. My dream job would be to work in something

related to agriculture and/or animal science. For Example, I plan on starting an ROP internship

with a local veterinarian for his two day a week farm visits. I hope that once I am in college I

find a job that helps me gain experience and skills I will need for my future and my career.

The next five years are uncertain but I do have my goals and desires that I will hold

myself to. I know my priorities, such as, my education and future in agriculture. My plans and

desires will always change and be altered as I mature and find different passions. However, I will

always have a love and passion for animals and agriculture. As I grow up and mature, I hope I

continue to find the importance in agriculture and everything the industry has to offer.
