What is Matter
Physical substance in general as distinct from mind and spirit in physics that which
occupies space and possesses rest mass especially as distinct from energy.
States of matter
The five states of matter are condensate, solid, liquids, gases, and plasma
Physical and chemical properties of matter
Extensive properties such as mass and volume depend on the amount of matter
being measured. Intensive properties such as density and color do not depend on
the mount of the substance present. Physical properties can be measured without
changing a substance’s chemical identity.
How matter changes chemically and physically
There are several differences between a physical and chemical change in matter
or substance. A physical change in a substance does not change what the
substance is. In a chemical change where there is a chemical reaction a new
substance is formed and energy is either given off or absorbed
Elements that make up matter
A definition of matter more fine scale than the atoms and molecules definition is
matter is made up of what atoms and molecules are made of meaning anything
made of positively charged protons neutral neutrons and negatively charged
electron.
Atoms that make up matter
Atoms are composed of particles called protons electrons and neutrons for matter.
Molecules that make up matter
The particles of a liquid are attracted to one another are in motion and are able to
move past one another.
Atoms and subatomic particles
Particles that are smaller than the atom are called subatomic particles. The three
main subatomic particles that form an atom are protons, neutrons, and electrons.
The center of the atom is called the nucleus. First let’s a bit about protons and
neutrons and then we'll talk about electrons a little later.

Examples
Air is surrounding you it means it occupies space. So air is an example of matter
even you are an excellent example of matter you have mass and occupy space.
Likewise, water, books, pencils, sun, earth, moon, electron proton mesons, quarks
are also examples of matter.
Example: matter changing state
Sublimation occurs when a solid changes into gas state without passing through
the liquid state. Lodine is an example of a substance that sublimes as well as solid
carbon dioxide dry ice snow and ice.
Examples of matter
Liquids adopt the shape of the recipients in which they are contained. Examples:
water, oil, blood, lava, soft drinks.
Pure substance
Matter can be broken down into two categories: pure substances and mixtures.
Pure substances are further broken down into elements and compounds. Mixtures
are physically combined structures that can be separated into their original
components. A chemical substance is composed of one type of atom or molecule.
Periodic table
The periodic table also known as the periodic table of elements is a tabular display
of the chemical elements which are arranged by atomic number electrons
configuration and recurrent chemical properties.
What law of conservation is
In physics and chemistry the law of conservation of energy states that the total
energy of an isolated system remains constant it is said to be conserved overtime.
