Plan of Investigation

Our class was given a SBA to write a plan of investigation, and our class was placed in

groups of four and each group choose a theme and my group choose to pick Crime and

Violence. Each person in the group was given to choose a topic under theme that was

chosen and I chose Effects of crime and Violence. If were to ask the reason why I have

selected this theme/topic, is because I want to speak to the reader how Crime and

Violence has caused a lot of lives and how Crime and Violence has affected us. As

English A student this topic can benefit me in class, say for example, if the teacher was to

teacher was to give a graded work on this topic, I can just go through and I can help other

n class. If I was to collect relevant information, I would just go to the police station and

ask the chief of the police one minute interview.

ARTIFACT 2
ARTIFACT 3
REFLECTION 1

The material has helped to shape my thinking as it has caused me to be mindful of

how I can be affected by Crime and Violence. I reflect on the fact that men now- a- days like

to beat women and even attempt to kill them, but these men think that women are always going

to keep silence but there’s going to come a time when women will speak out and act and then

men will know that not because they are the head, they should be respectful to women and not

overpower them. The artifact has encouraged me not to beat a woman when problems arises we

can sit down and discuss and resolve the problem, because some women may seek revenge and

this can lead to Crime and Violence.

The material has helped to shape my think as it caused me to think to myself why? Why are we

Jamaicans are being so violent to each other don’t we know that we all came into existence

through the same man so in some way we are related? We are one big family I say to myself and

to Jamaica and even the world we need to stop the crime and violence because we are one big

family.

The material has helped me to shape my thinking knowing that crime and violence can have a

considerable economic/financially impact on people. Say for example you’re saving money for a

year in a bank and then the bank got rob, how would you find all back all that money and
provide for family member for financial needs. We as people need to come together and put a

end to this Crime and Violence.

REFLECTION 2

The language the writer used in the artifact was easy to understand. The writer used

Standard English. The writer used Standard English because not everyone would have

understood Non-Standard English and what the writer was trying to express. The writer

used the persuasive device Rhetorical (“I will no longer tolerate your lies and bullshit”). The

purpose of the rhetorical question was to caused readers to question what they

understand by Crime and Violence.

The language the writer used was Standard English. The writer used Standard English

because the writer wants the readers’ to develop his/her vocabulary and also to

encourage the readers’ curiosity about the meaning and use of unfamiliar words.

The language that was used was also Standard English. The writer used Standard English

to make the reader understand, the writer doesn’t want the reader to be confused, he/she

wants the reader to understand with the familiar words.

Reflection 3

The SBA process has helped to develop my vocabulary and to be able to write an essay

with appropriate words. The process also helped me to be familiar with words I have

never seen or know the meaning of.

The SBA process has helped to improve my ability to participate in group activities and

to be able to work persistently. The process has also helped me to be able to conduct

research properly and how to summarize information that I have gathered.

The SBA process has made me a better person to be wear of the things that can happen in the

future knowing that, it’s Crime and Violence can affect people in many different ways.
Written Report
In order to complete the English A portfolio, a group which had similar interest in the theme

Crime and Violence was formed. Member met, examined the artifact and then selected the theme

to be used. The artifact chosen was an internet article, a poem, and a newspaper article.

to determine the deferent between factual data collected and to compare the level of Violence in

the last period. The writer in the poem entitled time to stand induces individual through the use

of persuasive techniques. The police assistant commissioner was interviewed and provided

information which spoke to the reason person should not engage in Crime and Violence.

lead to Crime and Violence has a group, we are happy with the pieces we have chosen. Each

member of the group came to the conclusion that they are happy working together as a group.

The group was effective working together because, as a group member complete help one
