Dear Anneke
It was a real sorrow that I heard this morning of your great loss. I knew your father was ill,
for your brother told me several weeks ago. However, as he at that time did not seem to think
the illness was very serious, the news of your father’s death came to me as a shock. You have
my sincere and heartfelt sympathy, my dear fellow, in your sorrow. I know you will feel it
deeply, for you always thought so much of your father and loved him tenderly. I feel it also as
a personal loss to myself, for your father was always very kind to me. His death must be a
terrible grief to your mother, too. Please assure her of my sincere sympathy.
“There are no words. While you have joy knowing where your love is in a better place, there
is sadness in the loss and grief”. You are in our prayers. (Catherine Pulsifer). However, it is
not just a lip service when I say that I feel with you in your sorrow. Just come to me
whenever you need me.

Machu Picchu is open year-round. The easiest way to get to from Cusco to Machu Picchu is
to take the train to Aguas Calientes (the town located a few miles from the site). It’s a scenic
3.5-hour trip each way along tracks that run right along the Urubamba River in the Sacred
Valley, with dramatic canyon walls on either side. The other way to get from Cusco to Machu
Picchu is to walk as part of a multi-day Inca trail tour, which is the far more scenic and
rewarding way. My preferred tour company for that is Intrepid.
Located in downtown Cairo, Traveler’s House is a little oasis of calm. The staff are fantastic -
offering me free dinner & breakfast plus copious amounts of tea. My room was cozy and
spotlessly clean. It was fantastic value and highly recommended.

go and were well informed about how to best get around.

Expressed anger is not only damaging to our relationships, but also to our health.
There are specific conditions that anger creates within the human body that negatively
affects our wellbeing. These effects are usually said to be risks to our heart, an increase in
anxiety, and a shorter lifespan.
Sometimes when we are angry, we can feel our heart pump harder. This is not
coincidence. Most physically damaging is anger’s effect on our cardiac health. In the two
hours after an angry outburst, the chance of having a heart attack doubles. It is amazing
that just by getting angry, it can mean that a heart attack is imminent.
Furthermore, anger is connected to increased anxiety. In fact, unresolved anger issues
lead to anxiety, which can have long-term effects on our life. Immediate effects of anxiety
might include dizziness, rapid breathing, nausea, muscle pain, muscle tension, headaches,
and problems with concentration and memory. Such symptoms can make it difficult to
perform routine tasks and can add to generalize anger about life. Not only does anger
make us feel bad, it can also produce higher levels of anxiety that is accompanied by many
different symptoms.
And finally, anger affects how long we live. It has been shown that if we have
repressed anger, or passive anger, we can effectively shorten our lifespan. Studies have
shown that those who hold in their anger through many years have shorter lives.
Anger not only demonstrates its damage outwardly through the destruction of
property and people, but also inwardly. This menace causes us to have heart issues, a jump
in anxiety, and even a shorter life. Next time you get angry, keep these details in your
mind.
27. Which of the following is the most improbable reason why people with anger find it
difficult to perform routine tasks?
A. They have physically damaging effects.
B. They need to resolve their problems first.
C. They experience higher level of anxiety in their life.
D. They have to think of the long-term effects on their life.
E. They have to deal with many different symptoms caused by anger.
29. “…it can mean that a heart attack is imminent.” (paragraph 2). The underlined word is
closest in meaning to….
A. requiring
B. recovering
C. correlating
D. performing
E. approaching

The Jakarta administration plans to allow the use of electronic ID (e-ID) cards, locally
called e-KTP cards, to access public toilets on the Tanah Abang Skybridge in Central
Jakarta, which is to open soon.
Research and development assistant manager Johan Sufandi of city wastewater
management company PD PAL Jaya, which is providing the smart toilets, said the system
would allow people easy access to the toilets. The card system will automatically record the
number of them who tap their IDs on the door to enter the public toilet facilities.
Johan said the e-ID card system would be more efficient than using the electronic
cash (e-money) cards issued by banks. "Using [e-money] cards from banks would be more
complicated and require a large investment, too," Johan said on Monday as quoted
by tempo.co.
City-owned developer PD Sarana Jaya Pembangunan had asked PAL Jaya to
provide four smart toilets along the skybridge on behalf of state railway company PT KAI.
KAI had requested the city administration to provide additional toilet facilities, because the
existing public toilets at Tanah Abang train station would not be enough to accommodate
the needs of vendors and customers at the skybridge. (cal)
37. What will probably happen if all public toilets can be accessed by e-ID cards?
A. There will be no more cash transactions to access public toilets.
B. People will not use the public toilets when they want to urinate.
C. There will be more toilet guards to help people to use e-ID cards.
D. People will leave their e-ID cards at home when they go to public places.
E. Public toilets will be quickly damaged by people who don't have e- ID cards.
According to his plan he mixed water in his milk and sold it to the villagers. To his
surprise his sales had increased. He was jumping with joy! Money was rolling in like no
one could imagine.
One day he took his bag full of money and went skipping on home. It was the summer
and the heat unbearable. As he was passing by a lake he decided to stop and rest under a
nearby tree, catching a cool breeze within a few minutes he was sound sleep.
There was a monkey who lives on that tree. The monkey hadn’t eaten since morning and
he was extremely hungry, He saw that the dairy man had a big bag with him. The
monkey thought,” There must some food in that bag,”
He grabbed the bag and opened it up. To his surprise he saw hundreds of brand new
shiny coins. The monkey snatched the bag and climbed the tree; the monkey did not
value the money. He started tossing the coins to the lake; He would throw it at the birds
in the nearby tree. He was enjoying himself by throwing away the money. When he went
to throw the last coin it fell on dairyman’s head, immediately he woke up.
He looked up and saw the monkey with empty bag in his hand, He looked around and
saw a bunch of coins lying in the grass around the tree, and the monkey had had his fun
and then ran off into the woods.
The dairyman started crying. Sobbing he collected as many coins as he could find. He
counted the money and realized that the money he earned, from the water which he
mixed in the milk, was in the lake
And the money he earned from the actual milk portion, was all the remained in his hand.
43. He grabbed the bag and opened it up. The underlined word is closest meaning to ….
A. got
B. took
C. stole
D. picked
E. brought
Studying abroad is the best way to improve ourselves. As you know, there are obvious
advantages to study abroad. Firstly, we have chance to improve our language. I think nothing
is better than to learn language with the native speakers. While we live abroad we can
practice speaking with the local people and ask what we study at school, so it is very useful to
improve our listening and speaking skills. It also offers chances to discover the new cultures,
way of thinking, history, custom and lifestyles.
Furthermore, we have opportunities to study the new technologies and most recent science
achievements. In addition, we are equipped with the valuable and updated knowledge which
may help us find jobs easily after graduating.
However, studying abroad is often expensive. We have to pay not only for our school fees but
also for our living cost. Therefore, finance may become the biggest problem. Consequently, it
distracts our mind from studying to earning money.
Last but not least, adapting to a new environment is e real challenge for every foreign student.
While changing the weather can affect our health, different cultures and customs may
influence our mind and make us become less confident or even a victim of discrimination.
Every day may turn into a struggle for survival in a strange country. If we don’t have enough
physical and mental strength, we will fail to adjust ourselves in the new environment. As a
result, we could neither study nor gain beautiful experiences as we have expected.
In conclusion, while studying abroad offers great opportunities for a better future, It also has
challenges that we must try our best to overcome what happened to make our dream come
true. Therefore, if you have a chance I think you should take that chance to study abroad.
49. We can conclude the writer prefer to study abroad due to....
A. gaining a better future
B. improving the language
C. gaining updated knowledge
D. studying the new technology
E. improving standard of living
