PLAN OF INVESTIGATION

The subtopic ‘incest’ is an issue that not everyone knows the seriousness of, which is why I
chose this topic to research on. I became interested this after realizing how incest can pull apart
families whether it be in communities or on social media. Incest should be talked about more
because it is a very sedative topic that can tarnish one’s character. As a student of English
Language, I expect to improve in my writing task and reading comprehensions skills by
researching and arranging the School Based Assessment. The way I intend to collect information
for this School Based Assessment (SBA) is by reading through articles online and in newspapers
sold in my community and also visit libraries. I will use the data gathered to write my reflections
and written report.

REFLECTION

Having read, viewing and giving an ear to all three (3) sources I was submerged with numerous
emotions. I was very proud when I managed to converge all needed data to complete this
assignment. When I payed attention to individual sources my critical thinking was more rounded
in ways that could not be conceptualized. When analyzed a realization was made that completing
my SBA allowed me to greater grasp the effects that incest has on children and also on society.
Over the year’s incest has been one of the biggest conflicts in the world, whether it be on children
or adults. Incest has reached to a point where popular reggae singer Queen Ifrika made a song
entitled “Daddy Don’t Touch Me There”. Poems were made about how cruel relatives destroyed a
child’s innocence. The poem expressed how distraught the individuals felt. My research on incest
has helped me realize the seriousness of this topic and also the speak out if I know anyone going
through this matter.
The article “I Want A Baby with My Son” was done in standard English which permitted me and
other people to read and understand the text that was written. The article was properly aligned so
that I could perceive the points displayed.
The process of merging each source and explaining what each was saying about incest has
expanded my knowledge but, in the end, it deemed itself challenging. This research encouraged
me to share my exploration with other individuals.
WRITTEN REPORT

The process followed to collect all the expected information was very crucial. The English
School Based Assessment (SBA) took a lot of analysis, interpretation and reasoning skills,
especially to find applicable and contemporaneous information within my group and at home. In
our group we decided on a theme that is topical in today’s society and one which seems to plague
Jamaica in particular along with this theme a topic was necessary. We were having difficulties
coming to a conscientious on what theme to choose. Despite the challenges we did not have a
choice but to get the work done and later read each other’s written report aloud to check for
similarities and error. Some members in the group found the SBA easy to do. We discussed
about our topic and theme and shared valuable information. Crime is a very a common problem
in Jamaica and we wanted to pinpoint some of the major matters. Based on our theme I decided
to focus on Incest. Incest is the sexual relationship between people classed as being too closely
related to marry each other such as mother, aunts and uncles. I selected this topic because of the
commonality of this criminal act within communities in Jamaica. We had to provide three
sources along with a combined entry which contains the theme factor, the language factor and
process factor. When I was given the task to research and find information about my topic it was
very challenging due to the stigma and shame surrounding this act. My group members also
found it difficult because they were not sure about what was in the others written report. Not
everyone understood what was taking place so there was confusion. The teacher gave her input
on what we had so far and told us what was needed to improve the quality of our work. Our class
was moving quite fast in terms of teaching, learning and SBA. In addition to that our teacher
wanted to set a trend so that other Grade 10 classes could admire and later model the pace at
which we were going. We exchanged information so the it would be easier to construct our
written report. Our teacher was very active with our group in terms of getting feedback from us
so she could see if we were on the right path. At the end of the entire process, the group was not
comfortable with final result even though the group has managed to have a central theme. Some
members were also having second thoughts on the topic they chose and wanted to change it. We
tried to gain as much knowledge from each other as possible on the theme. Though crime seems
to be rampant today, there was a time according to my elders when Jamaica was peaceful, if it is
God’s will hopefully, we can build a stronger and more ambitious country with less crime and
violence.

[VERSE:1 Queen Ifrica]

Everyday a wonder why my daddy had to be di one to take away my innocence
Oh sometimes a want to die feels like no one cares for me and it's evident

The long showers I take don't life I'm aware
But to have my daddy touching wash away the memories
Why do I have to face these tragedies
We go thru struggles in me that's just not fair

Mother 'in love with her son and wants to have his baby
They insist their relationship is not incest, instead claiming it is 'Genetic Sexual Attraction'
A mother has said she is in love with her son after they were reunited 30 years after she gave him
up for adoption.
Kim West, 51, and her son Ben Ford, 32, have been in a relationship for two years and are
planning to get married and try for a baby together.
The couple told the N ew Day their sex life is "incredible and mind-blowing".
They insist their relationship is not incest, instead claiming it is "Genetic Sexual Attraction" - a
term used to describe separated relatives who feel sexual attraction for each other after meeting
as adults.

The pair were reunited after Ben, who was living with his wife in the US, sent a letter to his
mother in England in 2013.

They began by exchanging phone calls before agreeing to meet up.

Ms. West said it was like they had "known each other for years". She started to realize she was
attracted to her son and said she had "sexy dreams" about him.

Feeling confused about her attraction, she was relieved after looking it up on the internet and
finding an article on Genetic Sexual Attraction. Mr. Ford told her he felt relieved and said he had
stopped having feelings for his wife.

When the pair met at a hotel, they shared a bottle of champagne and had their first kiss.

After Mr. Ford told his wife he was leaving her for his mother, the couple flew to Michigan
where they had help from another GSA couple to set up a new life.

Incest is illegal in Michigan and carries a sentence up to life imprisonment, but it is unclear
whether the police will act in this case.

Ms. West told the New Day: "This is not incest, it is GSA. We are like peas in a pod and meant to
be together. "I know people will say we're disgusting, that we should be able to control our
feelings, but when you're hit by a love so consuming you are willing to give up everything for it,
you have to fight for it.

Who is he
My heart weighs heavy
The memories are slowly coming in
He's a monster who hurt me
He's a father that loved me
He's a man who took advantage of me
He's a dad who loves me
My heart weighs heavy Who
is he.
