1 Scope

This specification together with the purchase order defines the minimum requirements
for ISO 10423 on/off ball valves for onshore and offshore applications downstream of
the wellhead and tree assembly with temperature ratings within the range -50°F to
+350°F (-46°C to +180°C) and pressure ratings up to and including 10000 psi.

This specification is not applicable to valves covered by 34-SAMSS’s or 45-SAMSS’s.

2 Conflicts and Deviations

2.1 Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Mandatory Saudi
Aramco Engineering Requirements or industry standards, codes, and forms shall
be resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer representative through the
Valves Standards Committee Chairman (VSCC), Consulting Services
Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

2.2 Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the VSCC, Consulting Services Department of Saudi
Aramco, Dhahran.

4 Acronyms and Definitions

See 04-SAMSS-055, Section 4.

5 Notes to Buyer

5.1 Trunnion mounted ball valves will be supplied with single piston effect (SPE)
seat rings on both sides of the ball unless otherwise specified. In cases where a
Double Piston Effect (DPE) seat is required on one side of the ball the buyer’s
representative shall clearly specify SPE x DPE on the valve datasheet.

5.2 The buyer’s representative shall take into account the allowable gas seat leakage
acceptance criteria specified in 04-SAMSS-056 for metal seated valves.
The buyer’s representative shall specify more stringent criteria when required
for the application.

5.3 See 04-SAMSS-055, Section 5, for additional notes.

6 Design Requirements

6.1 Valves with pressure ratings up to and including API 5000 shall be a two or
three piece side entry bolted body design. Valves with pressure ratings above
API 5000 shall be a two piece side entry bolted body design. A single piece top
entry body design shall be supplied when specified.

6.2 Valves shall be trunnion mounted, bi-directional, full bore, Tungsten Carbide
Coated (TCC) metal to metal seated, unless otherwise specified.

6.3 The bonnet shall be a bolted design.

6.4 Trunnion mounted ball valves shall be supplied with Single Piston Effect (SPE)
seat rings on both sides of the ball unless otherwise specified.

6.5 Trunnion mounted ball valves shall be provided with a connection or port into
the body cavity for testing each seat ring.

6.6 Valves shall be internally self-relieving designs. A relief/equalizing hole in the

ball, or a vent hole in the ball or seat to the upstream or downstream line is not

permitted.

6.7 Seat rings for trunnion mounted ball valves shall be spring energized for low
pressure seat sealing.

6.8 Valves specified for passage of scrapers shall have springs strong enough to
prevent the scrapper from lifting the seat ring from the ball as the scraper passes
through.

6.9 The design shall prevent entrapment of solids obstructing free movement of the
functioning components.

6.10 Trunnions shall be integral to the ball for valves with: a body bore 2-1/16”
and larger with API 10000 pressure ratings; a body bore 3-1/8” and larger with
API 5000 pressure ratings; a body bore 4-1/8” and larger with API 2000 and
API 3000 pressure ratings.

6.11 Bearings shall be self-lubricated type and shall have corrosion resistance equal
or better than the valve bore sealing mechanism parts.

6.12 Threaded seat retainers are not permitted.

7 Materials, Coatings and Welding

See 04-SAMSS-055, Section 10.

8 Tungsten Carbide Coated Parts

8.1 Seats and ball contact faces shall be TCC.

8.2 The minimum finished TCC thickness on each part after grinding and lapping
shall be 150 µm.

8.3 See 04-SAMSS-055, Section 11, for additional requirements.

9 Sealing

See 04-SAMSS-055, Section 12.

10 Connections and Fittings

10.1 An injection fitting shall be fitted between a primary stem packing and a
secondary seal unless otherwise specified.

10.2 Resilient seated ball valves with end connections 7-1/16” and larger shall be
supplied with seat sealant injection fittings.

10.3 Metal seated ball valves with end connections 7-1/16” and larger shall be
supplied with seat sealant injection features unless otherwise specified.

10.4 A drain and vent connection shall be provided in the body cavity for each
trunnion mounted ball valve. An exception is a valve with bores smaller than
4-1/16” which may be proposed with a combined drain and vent connection
where the vendor can demonstrate that all pressure test and leakage detection
requirements can be accurately performed.

Combined drain and vent proposals are subject to company acceptance.

The vendor shall provide details on the proposed fitting location and the
resulting test procedure to allow company evaluate and establish the suitability
for the intended application, any onsite testing requirements, post-test
preservation practices, etc.

10.5 Drain and vent valves are not required unless otherwise specified.

11 Operator

See 04-SAMSS-055, Section 14.

12 Inspection, Examination and Testing

12.1 Trunnion mounted ball valves shall be subjected to a “Double-Block-and-Bleed

Valve” test during the FAT.

12.2 See 04-SAMSS-049 and 04-SAMSS-056 for additional requirements.

13 Painting and Coating

See 04-SAMSS-055, Section 16.

14 Marking
