UI-LINK: A CLOUD-BASED PLATFORM FOR CAVITE STATE

UNIVERSITY AND INDUSTRY LINKAGES

INTRODUCTION

Strong academe and industry linkages is what it takes to build a strong nation.

The vision and mission of Cavite State University (CvSU) is to produce globally

competitive students in different workplaces, while industries are hiring graduates

with different skills and knowledge which responds to the tools and equipment they

have. According to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), academe-industry

partnerships will enable the country’s higher education institutions to be updated

with the latest trends and keep up with the demands of both the private and public

sectors.

Many research studies showing the importance of the two to become closer to

improve not only the curriculum but also the research, extension and production that

requires linkage and partnership. However, CvSU and industries have been

functioning separately and trying to form collaboration and communication limited to

seminar, workshop, conference, industry immersion and benchmarking. Some

programs from different campuses were succeeded while others failed. The university

needs harmonious linkage and partnership with the industries to contribute in

achieving a strong nation.

It can’t be denied that there are problems in collaboration and communication

between CvSU and industries in terms of improvement of the curriculums which are

responsive to its needs. The tools and equipment available in the laboratories and

facilities of the university are different to the actual setup in the workplaces.
Seminars, workshops, conferences, industry visits and benchmarking may not happen

every day for the university to be aware of the current trends.

Nowadays, everyone is aware of how social media and other similar platforms

affects the relationships of individuals, which also happens between academe and

industry partnerships. The development of UI-Link, a cloud-based platform

application that establish strong linkages between CvSU and industries, will provide a

solution to those problems mentioned. Through this platform, the university and

companies will consistently and continuously communicate and collaborate on the

improvement of the curriculums, support research developments, extension and

production programs, and promotion of the end-products and services. The system

will also serves as a venue for job application of the graduates and placement of the

on-the-job trainees.

Objectives of the Study

The general objective of the study is to strengthen the linkages between CvSU

and industry partners through a cloud-based platform that establish online

communication and collaboration.

Specifically, this study aims to:

1. design and develop a web-based system using a web development platform

and cloud-based backend structure which is capable of:

a. providing registration and login system for the university and

industry partners;

b. providing chatrooms and forums to allow consistent and

continuous comments and suggestions for curriculum

improvement, research developments, and extension programs;

 c. online page for introducing of products and services offered by the

companies that can be utilized by the university;

2. test and evaluate using modified ISO-EIC 25010 software evaluation

instrument;

3. prepare an implementation plan for the deployment the system in the

internet; and

4. assess the impact of the system to the university and industry partners.
