A town is deciding how to split their land for recreational and developmental purposes
and which land will be used for recreation and development. They have three different locations
for land Mr. Goodfellow’s farm, an Army base, and Mining land. Mr. Goodfellow’s farm costs
$50 per acre for recreation and $500 for development. The Army base costs $200 per acre for
recreation and $2,000 for development. Mining land costs $ 100 per acre for recreation and
$1,000 for development The army base and mining land can only use 200 acres for recreation
and the amount of army base land used for recreation and the amount of farmland used for
development together has to exactly total to 100 acres. The town wants to keep the prices to a
minimum.
Solving the unit problem we made matrices based on variables from the unit problem.
This helped me understand how to create complicated matrices and after this assignment, I had
a better understanding of matrices. Solving systems by substitution that showed us how to find
x and y values. Solving with Matrices showed us how to create matrices which we used to solve
the unit problem. Matrix multiplication was our first time really working on matrices and gaining
an understanding of them. Finding an inverse showed us how to find more matrices and was
difficult for me because it didn’t make a whole lot of sense at first but finding the inverse can
help you find how much something costs in a matrix. POW #4 we had to find a factor that said a
knight at the round table would always win depending on the number of chairs around the table.

Personal Growth
My personal development in this unit has been like a roller coaster of sorts. When we
first started this unit I thought it made sense but as we kept going on with the unit I got confused
fast. We learned how to substitute variables, the first day we did them I thought it made sense
to me but as we kept doing them I felt lost on how to solve for the second variable the majority
of the time. We also learned about graphing on the 3rd dimension. Graphing on the 3rd
dimension felt easy enough for me it got difficult when we went over solving the equations.
When we did the cookies unit I felt like I understood how to find the price based on which kinds
of cookies. Matrices at first were extremely confusing but when we had to do them by hand but
once we learned how to use calculators it became much easier.
