ABSTRACT
Geographically, Bangka Island is located at 1°20'-3°7' South Latitude and 105°-107°
East Longitude where it has the potential for tin metal commodities. The tin is formed due to
hydrothermal processes related to the intrusion of granite plutons with surrounding rocks.
The research locations were in Air Tayu Village, Jebus Subdistrict, West Bangka Regency,
Bangka Belitung Islands Province which geographically located in the UTM 48N 549342 mE
– 555590 mE coordinates and 9813400 mN – 9816900 mN coordinates which were included
in the exploration area of PT. Timah, Tbk. This study aims to determine the prospect of
primary tin mineralization and structural control to alteration and mineralization of the
study area. There are two methods used in the research namely surface geological mapping,
geochemical analysis (Analytical Spectral Devices and X-Ray Fluorence). Stratigraphic
arrangement of the study area from old to young sequentially Tanjunggenting sandstone
units (Central Early-Triassic Trias), Klabat coarse-granite lithodeme (Final Triassic-Early
Jurassic), and Klabat fine-grain granular lithodeme (Early Trias-Jurassic Trias). Alterations
found in the study area based on the results of the ASD analysis obtained two alteration
zones namely Greissen with a set of Muscovite + Tourmaline + Illite + Smectite minerals,
and Argilik with a mineral assemblage of Illite + Smectite ± Kaolinite. The results of primary
tin mineralization were found in Cassiterite (SnO2) minerals contained in veins with
Tourmaline and Quartz-Tourmaline sheets. The structure that develops in controlling
primary tin mineralization is joint and left sided fault with the northwest-southeast
orientation, where in this fault zone there is Sn mineralization with the most high content.
Based on the characteristics of deposist type in the field and laboratory analysis, the type of
sediment in the study location refers to the modification of Scherba, (1970); in Pirajno,
(1992) is the type of deposition greissen in the vein deposition phase. Based on the research
data, it can be concluded that the tin prospect is indicated by the observation location points
on the Sn Grade Distribution Map in red (very high (> 500 ppm)), purple (high (250-499
ppm)), green (medium (100-249 ppm) )), black (low (10-99ppm)), and pink (barren (0-9
ppm)) but still requires detailed exploration with the geophysical method to find out the data
on subsurface distribution.
