Good afternoon ladies and gentelmen. I’d like to start by introducing myself.

My
name is Nely and I from Romania, from a quaint secluded village, far away from
any big cities.

General intro: I’ve been asked to talk to you about education and in my
presentation I’ll focus in 3 major issues connected with it.

Intro

It goes without saying that modern societies place great emphasis on the
importance of education. Much as learning is a constant process, not solely
confined to the classroom, it takes an excellent teacher to assume responsibility
for educating the young and encouraging learning outside the school
environment. Nonetheless, what is needed to succeed in education?

First and foremost, education is not only preparation for life but is also life itself
owing to the fact that it is a cornerstone for successful life. Education is a
lifetime process with no true beginning or ending. Education consists of
experience, environment, socialisation and communication, and I believe that
education does not start and end in a classroom. The education that we actually
receive is the sum of experience that we let ourselves to be exposed to. It is
the duty of an educator to inspire students and enhance that desire to learn by
the classroom environment that s/he creates. Said so, this leads me to my next
point.

What makes a brilliant teacher? For one thing, effective teachers are those who
have a thorough grasp of their subject and demonstrate outstanding skills and
performance. There can be no transmission of knowledge to learners if teachers
themselves are not well versed in their subject and have effective teaching
skills. That of course requires continual training and professional development.
It also means that teachers set high educational standards, not only for able
and well-motivated learners, but also for those with little interest in learning and
low self- confidence. Taking each learner’s needs and abilities into
consideration helps teachers design their syllabus, organize learning activities
and decide on assignment criteria.

Besides being able to present ideas effectively, outstanding teachers realise

that their commitment extends beyond the simple diffusion of knowledge within
the classroom. Their demeanor must be one of patience and understanding,
thereby creating a rapport with their students, With an inspiring and friendly
teaching environment, personal growth and development are encouraged
beyond the classroom wall. As well as stressing the importance of leaning,
committed teachers stress the relevance of social values such as discipline,
cooperation and mutual respect over and above competition and pride.

Moving on, as far as state and private education is concerned, I am a huge

proponent of state education. Just a brief Segway… Unlike in other countries,
all schools in Finland are funded by the government. This means the quality of
education a child receives is not dependent on their parents’ income. And I can’t
help thinking that this should be this way. Despite the fact that private schools
have in this day and age better resources and smaller class size, in no account
should we value them owing to the fact that private education is reinforcing
privilege and harming the prospects of another generation. The only solution is
integration.

To sum up, state- of- the art educational facilities can certainly assist learning.
Nevertheless, it is the teacher with their instructional expertise, knowledge and
commitment, who can ensure that students not only acquire a sound body of
knowledge, but also a set of values which can prepare them for their role as
citizens.
