LA4 Define Saint. Discuss the ways that saints are examples of people who reflect God through holiness in their efforts to do
what is good.
This assessment would be recorded electronically in SEQTA under Religious Education (Confirmation) and would contribute to the
student’s overall grade for the semester. This assessment piece allows the students freedom in the way that they present the
information they have researched. The assessment piece will confirm basic understandings of what it means to be a Saint however
gives the students the opportunity to display higher order thinking as they rationalise why they admire their Saint. In researching the
Saint, the student has chosen for their Confirmation, it allows deeper connection with the idea of people reflecting God and holiness
through doing good, usually despite hardship. The information the student includes in the project will allow the teacher to assess
whether the student has understood what it means to be a Saint and so will be able to judge if further teaching is required in this
area. The teacher can also assess the student’s ability for higher order thinking, a skill which may need constant support
throughout a student’s learning journey.

A checklist has been included in the assessment as it allows the students to check that they have provided all the required
information for the assessment. A rubric allows the teacher to record attainment of the expected standard and allow for
discrimination of the level of attainment. The rubric is educative as it allows for feedback that will direct student learning (and
therefore is formative) and meets the purpose of determining whether the learning outcomes have been met and to what degree.
The assessment tools allow a grade to be given at the end of a set of tasks, and so may be considered summative and may be
used as evidence in reporting.
