Use your critical thinking skills to answer the following questions as FULLY as possible
to assess your partner’s paraphrased texts.

Directions: Read through the paragraph once, then read through it again, comparing it to
the original paragraphs. Respond to the following questions below, either on this paper,
directly on a writer’s draft photocopy, or in both places if needed. When presenting the
paraphrased texts do not alter them after giving the feedback to your classmate. Leave
them as they were originally paraphrased.

1. First, carefully check each support against the original wording. Does the writer use
both original wording and original sentence structure? Write a brief explanation as to
what the writer needs to change, and mark/underline the words and phrases that are too
close to the original on the draft itself. Guard against plagiarism!!

2. Is there any misinterpreted or misrepresented information in the paragraph? Explain


and mark that down for the writer as well if needed – unintentional plagiarism will still
result in a lower score.

3. Are the ideas in the paraphrase presented in a different order than the original text? If
the information is presented in the same order, make suggestions as to how the writer can
present the information in a different way while still sounding logical. If need be, suggest
use of transitional phrases to help the paragraph read smoothly.

4. Is there any important information from the original text that has been omitted in the
paraphrase? Keep in mind that all the important points should be mentioned, and the
paraphrase should be close to the length of the original.

5. Is there anything else you would like to add to help your group member out? Is there
a part of the paragraph that particularly stands out as well written? Make note of those
parts. Are there any suggestions for general improvement (consider the writing style, if
the paragraph seems unified and developed, etc).

6. Lastly, mark any spelling, punctuation, or grammar errors on the draft itself. If you
aren’t sure, ask questions (to your instructor or the writer).

Once you are done writing out the peer review, be sure to discuss your review orally with
the writer, in case she/ he has any questions.
