Pride  

An award I take pride in is my award from Regionals for Culinary Arts. My partner and I

placed second. What we competed in was like how Masterchef is like. We were timed for an

hour to see how much we can cook in that time. We were judged on and watched for every single

thing we did. If we did not finish in time we would have points docked off. It was a three course

meal we had to cook. It was a pork tenderloin, with roasted potatoes, green bean and mushroom

side, with a salad and for dessert was a classic crepe. It took a lot of time and practice to do so. It

was stressful in the beginning, due to not knowing how to handle the temperatures, and the

techniques we had to do. How I earned the award was by practicing before hand and having a

mentor show some techniques to make it easier and faster to complete the food. I had to practice

during the week sometimes and practice every saturday that I could. I had to also be positive on

the whole situation because if I was not and I was thinking about all the things that can go

wrong, it would have slowed me down and I would not be focused on trying to finish my tasks.

By working with a close friend of mine it helped us work together and communicate. By

knowing how to be organized, sanitary, and positive shows the judges how persistent I can be.

Also by knowing how to work with others and knowing how to be organized can help me in the

future, when I apply for jobs, or just for my everyday life. I know that I got second place and it

may not seem like a big deal, but it is. It proves to others and myself how dedicated I am to do

anything I set my mind to. It also taught me to become confident in myself and be social towards

others. If I would not have done the competition, I do not think I would be the person I am today.

I would still be this shy, introverted person who over thinks about little things. I am grateful for

doing this competition and my mentor for helping and guiding me through this process. Now

later in the future I will remember the day it all happened and the happiness it brought upon .
