In my opinion there are three pessimistic/ gloomy forecasts that may come true in 20 years'

time.

PESSIMISTIC FORECAST THAT MAY COME TRUE IN 20 YEARS’ TIME

Our world is constantly changing. How much the world has changed over the last 50 years is
undeniable. However, our planet will continue changing and in 20 years’ time, we will be going
through different pessimistic situations that will be able to destroy our world soon. There are
many predictions about the future and they all different: Some forecasts about global warming
and catastrophes, others about geopolitical tensions and wars and still others about a
powerful virus that develop a pandemic in the world.

As a first prediction, I can mention the Global Warming. Though, this problem is now
occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and more intense heat waves. We don’t
have to wait for many years to see this phenomenon. Climate change is the direct result of
global warming. Climate change affects all: people, plants, and animals. Scientists have warned
that in the next years, temperature average will raise 1.5C more and it will significantly be
dangerous for drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people. If
we don´t realize that we have the power to stop this devastation, the world will deteriorate
quickly.

In my view, the second prediction is about geopolitical tensions and new wars. This will be able
to make the global stability of the next couple of decades a complicated situation. It is often
said that there will be increases of tensions across all regions and types of governments
between countries. Nowadays, this problem is happening now. The greatest powers want to
spread and gain more territories and at the same time, the struggle for mineral and natural
sources. Experts say the third world war will become a platform for exposing new types of
weapons that have not been used, including weapons of mass destruction.

What I propose as third prediction is about the development of a supervirus. As Bill Gates said:
“A coming disease will develop and will be able to kill 30 million people within 6 months in 20
years’ time. We should prepare for it as we do for war.” We have examples of strong diseases
like Ebola and Zika some years ago. Those were crisis that showed that our systems for
responding to emergencies are still not solid enough. If a terrible virus attacks our humanity,
few people will survive.

Summing up, I think that it is difficult to be optimistic about the future of the world. People
should start doing everything to protect the environment and governments give up its greed
for territories and sources . It will be affecting the future of our children and grandchildren.
Think about the shame when they realized that we didn´t do the correct and moral actions. At
the same time, we get used to the idea that the world won’t exist forever.
