Lab Assignment: Monday, March 25th

Mini-project: Storyboard
For today’s mini-project, you will be reimagining an ending to a series or movie. In this case, you will talk about the
new ending using narrative tenses.

Step 1: Review narrative tenses

Review your notes, and if you need more information about the narrative tenses, the pages below offer more
details about each.
Past simple: https://www.ef.com/wwen/english-resources/english-grammar/simple-past-tense/
Past continuous: https://www.ef.com/wwen/english-resources/english-grammar/past-continuous-tense/
Past perfect: https://www.ef.com/wwen/english-resources/english-grammar/past-perfect-tense/
Past perfect continuous: https://www.ef.com/wwen/english-resources/english-grammar/past-perfect-
continuous/

Step 2: Practice the past perfect continuous tense

Many students had trouble using this tense in the stories. To practice this tense, use Unit 14. First, read the
grammar reference: http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/course/intermediate/unit-14/tab/grammar
Next, do the Session 2 activities to practice the tense:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/course/intermediate/unit-14/session-2

Step 3: Create your project

Go to https://whiteboard.explaineverything.com/ This website (Explain Everything) allows you to create
interactive projects. In this case, we will be creating a storyboard. Click on “Template” and choose “Storyboard.”

When you have opened a storyboard, sign in at the bottom of the screen in order to be able to save your work (you
will need to create an account). Now, you can start to create your storyboard (see directions below). Use the tools
on the left side of the screen.
For this project, you will imagine that an alternative or extended ending has already been created for the movie or
series you choose, so you will write about the scenes in the past using the narrative tenses. Try to think of a movie
or series with an ending that left you with questions and try to answer those with your storyboard. For each of the
8 scenes on your storyboard, include a picture demonstrating what happened and a written description of the
scene. You can see an example (Breaking Bad) that I have started below:

This mini-project will be worth 15 points. The requirements are as follows:

Title 1 pt
8 pictures related to the scenes 2 pts
8 scene descriptions 3 pts
At least 2 (correct) examples of the past simple 1 pt
At least 2 (correct) examples of the past continuous 1 pt
At least 2 (correct) examples of the past perfect 1 pt
At least 2 (correct) examples of the past perfect continuous 1 pt
A cohesive, creative, unique storyline 2 pts
Correct use of grammar and vocabulary (-0.2 for each error) 3 pts
Step 4: Deliver your project
On the right side of your screen, you will find a code. Copy the code, and send it to me in an e-mail. Also, take a
screen shot (alt + prt sc) of the project (in case the code link doesn’t work) and copy it into the e-mail as well. The
project must be delivered to me by 15:00 today. If it is not in my e-mail by 15:00, I will begin to deduct points. You
will be deducted 3 points immediately and then 3 more points for each day that it’s late.

Step 4: If you finish…

Step 5: (If you finish your project before class ends…) Study the vocabulary reference of Unit 14
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/course/intermediate/unit-14/tab/vocabulary) and complete
Sessions 1, 3, and 4 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/course/intermediate/unit-14/).
*If you don’t have time to complete the other sessions, you should work on them outside of class… the material
may appear on a future test or quiz.
