The problem arises when the students at the first grade of MA An-Nur get low score in listening
class. Based on the observation, they find difficulties in catching the information from listening
audio which uttered by native speakers of English. Listening is the basic skill which should be
built in the process of people’s language development. Nation and Newton(2009: 37), they
stated that the early stage of language development of person first or second language is
depending on listening.

which known as -2.093. By considering that result, the null hypothesis is rejected and the
alternative hypothesis is accepted. It means the use of video of Indonesian news anchor is
effective to increase the students’ achievement in English listening.
