7-Zip File Manager Quick Reference Guide

After the installation of 7-Zip, all compressed (zipped) files will have this icon:

How to Extract a Zip File Using 7-Zip Quick Menu


1. Locate the zip file you wish to
uncompress and right click.
2. Select 7-Zip from the menu.
3. Select Extract files…

4. Select the location for the


unzipped files by typing into
the Extract to field
 
5. You can also browse to your
location by using the
button.
6. If the zip file is password
protected, you will need to
supply the password.
7. Click OK. 

8. You can also use the Extract
Here option which will unpack
the file to the current location.
a. Any folder structure
defined in zipped file will
be retained.
9. You will be prompted for the
password if one was used to
encrypt the zip file.

10. The final method to unzip the


file is the Extract to
“Filename\”.
11. This method will create a
folder in the current location
of the zip file with the same
name of the zip file and
unpack the contents of the zip
file to that folder.

How to Create a Zip File Using 7-Zip Quick Menu

1. Locate the File(s) / Folder(s)


you wish to compress and
right click.
2. Select 7-Zip from the menu.
3. Click Add to Archive….

4. The Add to Archive window


appears.
5. Name the archive (zip) file  
in the Archive text box.
6. You can change the location
where your zip file is
created by selecting the
button. 
7. To password protect the zip
file, enter a password in the
Encryption area and then
reenter the same password.
8. Click OK.
9. Note: If you do not change
the save location in Step 6,
the zip file is created in the
original location of the
File(s) / Folder(s).

How to Create a Zip File Using 7-Zip
1. Click on the Start menu, All
Programs.
2. Click on the 7-Zip folder.
a. This folder could be
located anywhere in
programs list depending
on your PC settings.
3. Click on 7-Zip File Manager.

4. Browse to the File(s) / Folder(s)


you wish to compress and
highlight them.
a. You can select multiple files
and folders by holding the Ctrl
key down on your keyboard
and using the mouse to click
on the files.

5. Then click the button.

6. The Add to Archive window
appears.  
7. Name the archive (zip) file in
the Archive text box.
8. You can change the location
of where your zip file is
created by selecting the 
button.
9. To password protect the zip
file, enter a password in the
Encryption area and then
reenter the same password.
10. Click OK.

11. You will see the Compression


dialog box as your file is
created.
12. Note: If you do not change
the save location in Step 8,
the zip file is created in the
original location of the File(s)
/ Folder(s).

How to Create a Zip file and Email Using 7-Zip Quick Menu

1. Locate the File(s) / Folder(s)


you wish to compress and
right click.
2. Select 7-Zip from the menu.
3. Click Compress to
“filename.zip” and email.

4. Once compression has


completed, an Outlook
email message will open.
5. Select your recipients and
click send.
