CASE OF ASME B16 VALVE, FLANGES, FITTINGS, AND GASKETS STANDARDS

B16 Case 12
To allow the use of Alloy UNS S34751 in ASME B16.5
and B16.47

Inquiry: May solution annealed stainless steel plate and
forgings, UNS S34751, 347LN, with chemical
compositions conforming to Table 1, mechanical
properties conforming to Table 2, and otherwise
conforming to the applicable requirements of the
specifications listed in Table 3 be used for ASME B16.5
and B16.47 pipe flanges and flanged fittings?
Reply: Yes, the material described in the inquiry may be
used for ASME B16.5 and B16.47 pipe flanges and
flanged fittings provided that the following additional
requirements are met:
(2) For ASME B16.47-2017, Pressure
Temperature ratings are shown in Table 21
and. Table I-19.
(f) Flanges and flanged fittings shall be made from
forged materials. Blind flanges and certain
reducing flanges shall be made from forged or
plate products.
(g) All other provisions of ASME B16.5 and B16.47
for applicable material, standard and class
designation shall apply.
