politician is the subject of the sentence.

to indicate the correct answer) Ah. Why Ma’am?
Simply because the subject in this sentence is the
“POLITICIAN”, the words “along with the newsmen”
is not included as being the subject inthe sentence.
This is what we call parenthetical phrase. When we
say parenthetical phrase, these are the explanatory or
qualifying words, clause or sentence inserted into a
passage. The parenthesis could be left out but still the
sentence is grammatically correct and has a complete
thought. Therefore, you should not be confused with this
phrase, because the rule of the subject-verb agreement
states that… everybody! Please read!
Sometimes the subject is separated
from the verb by such words as
along with, as well as, besides, not,
etc. These words and phrases are not
part of the subject. Ignore them and
use a singular verb when the subject
is singular.

are not part of the main subject. Focus on the ,main
subject, determine if it is a plural or singular subject,

Today, we will watch the short video of Abdur Raheem

McCarthy at the Peace Conference. He is an Irish-American
who accepted Islam in 1994. He studied Quran and Arabic
Language. After he graduated, he became a renowned
international speaker lecturing around the world at
conferences. So, I will give you guide questions that could
help you understand the video.

Guide Questions:

1. Who speaks in the video? How credible is he to

talk during the Peace Conference?
2. According to the speaker, when does misery start?
3. How can Islam be the solution to the problems
that beset the world?
4. Why do you think that the speaker encourages his
audience to adopt Islam?

because I think that each of us has
his/her own responsibility in
attaining peace and harmony in this
world regardless of our color,

law.

is so strong, therefore people will be
afraid to commit crime and mistakes.

Hm. They are very strict in abiding
rules.
Indeed, laws are very important to them and they
respect Quran so much. However, some people are
against of their rules because these are too cruel.
For example, theft is punishable by amputation of
the hands (Quran 5:38), criticizing or denying any
part of the Quran is punishable by death, criticizing
Muhammad or denying that he is a prophet is
punishable by death etc.

So, I have a question, imagine the world is

governed by those kinds of rules, do you think that
would make the world at peace?
