ACTIVITY 1 - WARM-UP

OBJECTIVE:
 To get SS involved into the lesson and revise vocabulary related to crime
PROCEDURE INTERACTION TIMING

T greets Ss and asks informal questions. SS answer informal questions. T checks T–Ss 7 min
HW.

Ss are asked to match some newspapers headlines with the crimes they refer
to.(handout). T asks them if they have ever been robbed or experienced any kind
of offence.

T asks Ss to write as many words related to crime as they can remember in 2’ to


activate their vocabulary .

ACTIVITY 2

AIMS : To give Ss to practice in listening for both gist and detail , completing the task
.

PROCEDURE INTERACTION TIMING

SS are going to listen to an interview with the Home Affairs Minister about T – Ss 8min
crime statistics. Ss have to say whwether the following statements are true or
false according to the minister. They also have to identify the types of crime S-S

the interview is about and if they coincide with those mentioned before.

ACTIVITY 3 GRAMMAR REVISION

AIMS: To allow Ss to revise the passive

Ss are asked to listen again the interview, this time having to complete a
gapped text based on the script from which some passive structures have been

removed. They have to complete with the exact words they hear. There are
also passive structures which have not been removed and they also have to T-S
underline them.

Then, Ss are asked to complete a table with the passive structures from the text
according to its use/meaning. T also asks further questions regarding the tense.

ACTIVITY 4 : GRAMMAR PRACTICE

AIMS : To have Ss use the passive correctly

PROCEDURE INTERACTION TIMING

Ss are organised in groups of four. They are told they are teams of
news reporters who have to translate a text in 10’. They need to be the

first to go on air with the piece of news.It’s about a burglary. The best
translation wins. After listening to their translation, T provides them with T-Ss
a correct version on a flipchar and discuss the possible mistakes.

T offers feedback upon Ss’ participation and performance

T sets HW : a piece of news, recently broadcast, translated into English.
