‘Culture’ Evaluation (Assignment 4)

PLANNING: What research tasks did you carry out to begin researching the general theme of cultures? (Mind-
Maps, Mood-Boards, Primary Research Photos etc.) What did you discover/like/dislike/inspired by/feel etc.

I started with my mind map; I created this by drawing on a piece of paper with colours pens. On this mind
map I included art, fashion, religion, LGBT+, film, music etc. I also created a thought pool to visualise ideas for
my design board. I like the look of my mind map due to the colour differences and also due to the fact that it
doesn’t look so well placed and plain.
I created a design board with Secondary images gathered from the internet on different cultures and sub
cultures. I used illustrator to upload the images. These images I gathered related to cultures and sub cultures
like tattoos, Asia, India and graffiti. I also used words to segment these categories into different parts of my
design board. This design board helped me to get inspiration for my experiments and also helped me think of
my final ideas.
I went on a photo shoot to the world museum and other galleries. This helped me to become inspired and
look at different people. I went to Tattoo Parlours and take photos of their designs. I used these pictures to
help me create my final piece.
RESEARCH: What theme from ‘Cultures’ did you choose? What did you produce to research it? How did you
use that research? (For example how did you use your primary photos after you glued them into your sketchbook?)

The theme I chose to do is tattoo culture, I did this through looking at graffiti and tattoo in my design board. I
chose tattoo after doing a experiment with collage.
