like and don’t like doing on holiday. Use but to link contrasting
ideas.

Then they read three or four sentences on a worksheet (e.g. I like
going to the beach but I don’t like playing in the sand) and say if
they are correct or not.
Lastly, they write a sentence about themselves using but.

One possibility is to have pupils research different countries on
child-friendly websites which have plenty of pictures. You could
use stories from different countries if you prefer.
They discuss why they like the country and prepare a very short
presentation for example a PowerPoint presentation or a poster.
This would be a good introduction to some of the new countries
introduced in the next section of the textbook.

One possibility is for the next three Language Arts lessons to plan,
prepare and practise a short performance, which will be held in the
final lesson. You could invite other classes, teachers or parents to
the performance.
The performance will be a review of any aspect(s) of the learning
over the school year. It could be a song, a chant, a rhyme, a story
etc.
In this lesson, gather ideas for the performance from the pupils
and review some of the songs, chants and stories in the textbook to
decide on a focus. Begin preparing the performance.
