INTRODUCTION

Background

State Polytechnic of Padang is a vocational institution which is more

concentrated learning on practice than on theory. In this institution, the education

is not only focusing on the theory but also guides the students to practice the

theory in the working environment and encourage the students to applying their

knowledge into work field.

Therefore, State Polytechnic of Padang provides an internship program. It

is implemented in order to improve the quality of graduate State Polytechnic of

Padang in achieving the relevant objectives between the world of education with

workforce demands. It also gives the student a chance to increase and explore

their ability in a company or industry. As they do the internship in a company,

they will get experiences on how to be a real worker in a real company or

institution. They also will get an opportunity to be a professional worker. Not only

that, the students also can gain a new knowledge that they have not got before.

This internship program is expected to improve students' skills and work ethic

which include: the ability to work, working motivation, initiative, creativity,

discipline and diligence. It also makes the student know and learn how to

responsible for the job that they get in the real world. In other words, internship is

as part of the course to be fulfilled by students before completing their study.

In English Department, as the writer major, there are two kinds of

competences; they are English for Translation and English for Broadcasting. In

English for Translation, the students learn how to be a good translator and a good

interpreter. Meanwhile, In English for Broadcasting, the students learn TV and

Radio Broadcasting. They learn about the theory and more on practice. For

example in Radio Broadcasting, the student learn and practice about how to be a

radio announcer, how to operate the announcing equipment, how to edit the sound

using Cool Edit, how to write a correct script for announcer and news and much

more. In TV Broadcasting, she learn how to be a good TV broadcaster, starts from

how to use many kind of camera, how to take an exact angle when do a shooting,

how to use the shooting equipment to make a short film and how to edit the video

using Adobe Premier. For internship program, the writer choose broadcasting

program because she can explores her ability and creativity in that area. So, the

writer chooses MNC Group especially iNews as a place to doing the internship

program. Because MNC is one of the biggest companies in Southeast Asia and

also the most integrated television, hopefully by doing the internship there, the

writer can gain more and more new knowledge and can apply it later in the real

work field.

Objectives

There are so many objectives of internship program , such as for the

writer, campus, and also the company or industry. The first is for the writer.

Internship is a way for the students to get experiences in the work field, new

knowledge, and also train how to have a self-confident, because she has to work

with the new people and of course those people are professional worker. In

addition, as a State Polyechnic of Padang student, it is used to fulfill the

requirement to gain the Diploma Degree.

Second for English Department State Polytechnic of Padang, this program

can be a way to promote the institution to the industry or company. This program

also can help the student to face the work field in the future and facilitate the

students in implementing their knowledge and skill in broadcasting.

For iNews, this program will establish a good relationship and cooperation

between iNews itself with State Polytechnic of Padang especially for English

Departmet. Moreover, in the future the company can recruit new talented students

from State Polytechnic of Padang to work with them in this company.

Benefits

There are some benefits that will be gained by having this internship

program. For the writer, she will get many new experiences as she work in the

real work field, such as: helping iNews employees to prepare such a needed for its

social media, practice her skills, obtained a new skills, get something that she

never got before in the learning process in campus- for example when she

documenting behind the scene of some tv program and making, it improves her

self-confidence and learn how to work in a team and it can make a good

relationship with people in the company and create a network with them, so in the

future, it will be useful for getting job opportunities.

For English Department State Polytechnic of Padang itself, it can be work

field practice for the studentt and build a good relationship between iNews with

the campus, so hopefully in the future, iNews can work together for the better

development of English Department and State Polytechnic of Padang.

The last for MNC Group especially for iNews, through this program, it

can assist the employee in doing their tasks, such as when the writer helps them in

editing video and making graphic template and managing their social media. Its

also help the production of news specially news that using English language.

COMPANY’S PROFILE

The History of Company’s Profile Establishment

The building of iNews

iNews first broadcasted on 5th March 2008 launched the name SUN TV.

At that time, the broadcast just could be watched via Indovision, OkeVision, and

Top TV. SUN TV was the first local Indonesian television to air for 24 hours non-

stop.

On 26th September 2011, SUN TV changed its name to SINDOtv which

was part of Sindo Media synergy with Sindo Trijaya FM and SINDOnews.com.

Three years later, on 23th September 2014 officially the Minister of

Communication and Informatics gave the network station permission for

SINDOtv. Then, on 15th December 2014 SINDOtv was officially launched as a

national television in the Soft Launching Luar Biasa event.

SINDOtv officially changed its name to iNews TV after holding the

iNewsmaker Awards event held on 6th April 2015. In addition, local television

under the television network was also changed the name to iNews TV. On 1st

December 2016 iNews TV moved its logo from previous to right to left. Then, on

31th October 2017, iNews TV changed its name to iNews to coincide with the

iNews Metamorphosis event.

iNews is a national television that has the largest local television network

in Indonesia Supported by this vast network, iNews will certainly pick up and

highlight local content from each region. iNews will be a television station that

features news and information programs that are fast, accurate, informative,

educational and inspiring. To strengthen its excellence as a news and information

television, iNews is supported by the largest news center and news gathering in

Indonesia.

There are some programs in iNews :

1. INTERMEZZO

Intermezzo is a live talk show program that discussing about news bulletin

social community, urban, tips and features as well as discussing the updated news

in social media, life style, and event recommendations. Intermezzo is broadcast

every Monday untill Friday at 11:30 AM

2. POLEMIK

This is a discussion forum program that contains polemic in Indonesian

politics which contain the hottest issues, updated, and includes the trending topic

guided by Dea Tungga Esti and Latief Siregar.

3. POLICE LINE

Programs that present information about the criminal around the world,

packed differently and informatively. In this program also broadcast traffic

information directly from TMC Polda Metro Jaya. Police Line is Broadcast

everyday at 03:45 PM.

4. UNTUNG ADA TORA

This is an informative talk show program from iNews. Accompanied by

Arie Untung and Tora Sudiro will discuss informative themes and entertaining.

Untung ada Tora pogram is broadcast every Monday at 22:00 to 23:00 pm.

5. HOTMAN PARIS SHOW

Hotman Paris is one of iNews latest talk show programs. Hotman Paris

will guide a program that explores all sorts of problems and conflicts. Hotman

Paris Show inviting sensational guest stars from different stories, backgrounds

and life experiences. Hotman Paris Show program is broadcast every Tuesday,

22:00 pm on iNews.

Besides to the programs that are on iNews channel, iNews also has news

programs on other tv channels that are part of MNC such as.

1. SEPUTAR INEWS

Seputar iNews is a news program broadcast on RCTI television station

replacing Seputar Indonesia program from 1th November 2017. The Seputar

iNews Program broadcasts for three to four hours each day through Seputar iNews

Pagi, Seputar iNews Siang and Seputar iNews Malam Program.

2. LINTAS INEWS

Lintas iNews is a news program broadcast on MNCTV television station

replacing Lintas program from 1st November 2017. Lintas iNews Program

broadcasts also for three to four hours each day through the Lintas iNews Pagi,

Lintas iNews Siang, and Lintas iNews Malam program.

3. BULETIN INEWS

Buletin iNews is a news program broadcasted on GTV television stations

replacing Buletin Indonesian program from 1th November 2017. Just like Seputar

iNews and Lintas iNews, Buletin iNews also broadcast for three to four hours

each day through Buletin iNews Pagi (03.30 AM - 05:00 AM), Buletin iNews

Siang (11:00 AM-12:00 PM), Buletin iNews Malam (00:30 AM - 01:00 AM) and

Sekilas iNews program.

 News Director of MNC Media

News director of MNC Media is an individual at a broadcast station who is

in charge of the news department. The news director is typically in charge of the
entire news staff, including journalists, news presenters, photographers, copy
writers, television producers, and other technical staff. The director also keeps
track of how the show is going on , as well as talking to the producer to get things
going.

 Head of R&D ( Research and Development ) Division and

Documentary on News iNews

The duty of head of R&D division and documentary on News iNews is

responsible for all research and development activities within the company. The R
& D section is also responsible for ensuring the quality of performance within the
company in accordance with the standards set by the company.

 Head of R&D ( Research and Development ) Department

Head of R&D department is a part of contact if the outsiders want to

cooperate with the company related to the procurement of goods and services for
research and development activities company. Then, Head of R&D department
responsible for managing certain funds that the company has budgeted for
research and development.

 Coordinator of Social Media

Coordinator of social media is a member of the marketing department to

maintain the company's online presence, typically be in charge of the entire all of
containt creator of social media staffs and agree to all content that have been made
by content creator and deemed to be appropriate for upload to social media.

 Content Creator of Social Media

Thee duty of content creator of social media is creating creative content

such as images and video. Content creator of social media staffs are also
responsible for finding current and interesting news to attract potential followers.
They are also required to search for the latest trends and stay up to date on all
social media changes.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INTERNSHIP

Internship and Time Schedule

The writer did her internship program in MNC iNews especially in Social

Media division which is located in MNC Center Complex, Jl. Kebon Sirih No. 17-

19 Central Jakarta. She conducted the internship program for two months started

from February 5th until April 5th, 2018. During the internship, her working time

was based on the schedule that company’s gave. In social media division, the

writer’s main job was editor for any graphic template news, creative content,

banner, info graphic and video news that will upload on Instagram. Sometimes,

writer did a greeting with some of famous artist and recording a video for

promoting the TV programs that iNews has. Besides editing, the writer also

managed the official account of iNews social media such as Facebook, Twitter,

Youtube, meTube and Instagram. For social media, iNews has four account for

each of news program, they are; Seputar iNews (RCTI), Lintas iNews (MNCTV),

Buletin iNews (GTV) and Official iNews (iNews). For addition, in this division

the writer also made a script or caption for Instagram to make viewers know about

the news clearly.

Description of Internship Activities

There are many programs in iNews such as Polemik, Intermezzo, Special

Report, Police Line, Berita Siang, Lintas iNews (MNCTV), Seputar iNews

(RCTI), and Buletin iNews (GTV). Meanwhile, the writer got Lintas iNews

(MNCTV), Seputar iNews (RCTI), and Buletin iNews (GTV). All of this program

are broadcasted everyday and they contain the latest news.

Daily Activity

During the internship program, her daily activity as editor, she has

responsibility to edit Graphic Template news, Quote, Statement, videos for Lintas

iNews (MNCTV), Seputar iNews (RCTI), and Buletin iNews (GTV) and making

Caption for Instagram. Besides, as editor the writer also assigned to search an

updating info news in iNews link, like Okezone.com, Inews.id, and Sindo. Then,

the news will put into the graphic template. Moreover, the writer also design a

polling that will be upload on Instagram. The writer also did live streaming

control. The writer always did those jobs, every working time. But, sometimes,

the employees usually asked her to do Behind the scene of “Untung ada Tora”

also greeting Artist for promoting iNews channel and helping in some news

report.

Working Procedures

As she mentioned above that her main job was editor but she also had

other job. So, in this part she will explain each of working process which she did

during internship program.

A. Graphic template and content creative editing process

In social media division, one of the writer jobs was editing graphic template,

info graphic and content creative for Instagram using Photoshop. In this stage the

writer will explain the process of editing one of content creative. There are some

type of content creative such as quotes, statement, banner and polling. The writer

often edited quotes and statement during internship program. Quotes and

statement edited in the same way. So, this is the process of editing quotes.

1. Searcing the quote

First, the writer find the right and meaningful quote that deserves to be
post on social media. Usually, quotes in the iNews account come from google or
from the personal account of the owner of the quotes.

2. Write and translate quotes

Write down the quotes, if the quotes are in English then it should be
translated into Indonesian. It aims to make the reader understand the meaning of
the quotes because the target readers are the people of Indonesia.

When translating the qoute, the writer was using Thesaurus and KBBI
when she found some words that were difficult to translate. After translating the

quote then it had been checked by the staff, the quote will be saved to be used as a
graphich template to make it more attractive. In addition, to create a graphic
template required photoshop application, it will be explained in the next step. This
is one example of a quote that has been created by the writer which words is
derived from English.

3. Open the picture and template

After opening Photoshop, the writer opened the picture by clicking open
button. Then, open the template that will be used for editing, in this process the
writer was used MNCTV quotes template.

4. Cutting

Next, the writer selected and cut the picture to fit the template. In this process

there are some tools that the writer used to select the picture object, such as:

Magic Wand Tool to Selects similarly colored areas, quick Selection Tool to

Quickly "paint" a selection using an adjustable round brush tip and lasso Tools to

makes free-hand, polygonal (straight-edged), and magnetic (snap-to) selections.

5. Merge image pieces

At this step, the writer combined the picture that already cut into the template

by using move tool.

6. Insertion of quotes sentences

In this step, the writer will put the quote sentences, name and profession of a

famous person into the template. When inserting the quote, apprentices did not

need to set the font type and size. Furthermore, the font type and font size adjusts

to the selected template, because each template already had its own font type and

size. Finally, save the picture.

B. Video news editing processs

iNews also handled some news program for others channel such as Lintas

iNews (MNCTV), Seputar iNews (RCTI) and Buletin iNews (GTV). The writer

also had a duty to edit video news mentioned above by using Adobe Premier. The

working process of editing video news are as follows:

1. Transferring the video.

First step is transferring video from Filezilla to writer’s file. In this stage,

the writer import the video from Filezilla, that derive from studios.

2. Import the video

After the transfer process was complete, the writer open Adobe Premier

application and import the video by clicking import and choose the video.

3. Inserting TV logo

If the video has been opened, the writer will insert the TV logo into the video.

First, the writer will import the logo and drag the logo into the timeline and set the

size the place of the logo in the video.

4. Cut the video

In sosial media, the video that could be shared usually only about one

minute duration, especially for Instagram. Meanwhile, the original video duration

is about 30 minute until one hour. So, the writer cut the original video, and divide

it base on the headline. It aim to make people easier to get information quickly.

After the video has been cut, make a new sequence for each video that has

been divided and give the title according to its headline.

5. Save the video

The last step is save the video. The writer saved each sequence with

format H.264. That format is the format that employees usually use there.

C. Tweetdeck

Tweetdeck is a social media dashboard application for management of

Twitter accounts. In this part, the writer is assigned to schedule the tweet using

Tweetdeck, usually she was tweeting the promotion program and some news. For

the news she got it from Sindo.com and iNews.id and for the promotion program,

it obtained from E-mail.

Furthermore, the writer will explain the working proces of this job. First,

sign in on tweetdeck account, usually the writer scheduled for four official

account such as Lintas iNews (MNCTV), Seputar iNews (RCTI) and Buletin

iNews (GTV). Next, Enter the tweet, schedule and click tweet, the tweet that

uploaded was base on the scheduled time.

D. Behind the scene

The writer was assigned to record or take behind the scene pictures of a

program that aims to promote the event on social media. The writer asked the

guest star to promote the program through videos and photos that uploaded to

instagram.

E. Assistant reporter

Here the writer was given the opportunity to help and see the process of a

live report. She works as an assistant reporter. In this part, she should get the

information needed by asking the resource person and sometimes she was also

asked to be one of the resource persons of the program.

F. Visited the Studio

Not only seeing live report outside the building, the apprentices

were also given the opportunity to visit the studio. When visiting the studio the

apprentices see the process of how a program is run in the studio. There the

apprentices taking pictures and asking question about broadcasting and news

report. So, the writer got a lot of knowledge from there.

Problem and Solution

During the internship program especially in the iNews social media

division, there are so many unforgettable experiences that can lead the writer to be

better when working after her graduation later. But, besides that, there are some

problems that the writer got during the internship program. First, lack of

computers. The lack of computers that exist there make the writer difficult when

working because the computers are only available for employees. Sometimes the

writer used computer that were not used by staff. But, if all of computer are in

use, the writer used her own laptop to solve this problem. In case, to avoid this

problem the writer always brought her laptop.

The second problem that the writer found is not all computers that could

support the application needed to do work. In this case, the writer downloaded the

application on her laptop to make easier.

Last, problems faced when doing an internship program is when searching

and determining the headline that interesting to read. It made difficult for her to

help and share the news through social media. Therefore, iNews offer apprentices

to join the Bahasa classes, along with some of the employees there. Bahasa class

aim to improve the skill of apprentices and employees while sharing the news.

Here the apprentices were also taught to determine which news is interesting and

deserve to be shared.

The writer was conducting the Internship Program in iNews one of the

company of MNC group specifically in Social media division. During the

internship program, the writer got a lot of experiences about broadcasting

especially in editing videos and photos. There are many benefits that writer got

during internship program

First, the writer could learn and see how a program run such as recording,

preparation, until editing process that was usually only seen from the TV. Next,

the writer also learned about how to be a good editor from the employees and

learned how to write a good and interesting news and . Last, the writer also can

apply what she had been learned in college.

Suggestion

The writer has done many things when doing internship program. So, the

writer wants to give some suggestions for iNews, English Department and the

students. For iNews, it is better to increase some of facilities such as computer and

chairs to makes the apprentice easier doing their work, update their application on

computer such as Photoshop and Adobe Premier because only a few computers

have those apps in there and the last one is to entrust more varied work to the

apprentice.

Next, for English Department. It is expected that the educational system

can improve the student’s skill in editing video and photos because sometimes the

writer find some difficulty when editing video and photo.

Finally, for the students who will do the internship program. It is better for

them to choose the place for internship where the job that suitable with those

taught in English Department so they can improve their skill and knowledge.

Moreover, they can do the job easier because they have learned in campus.
